How about automating bypass or whatever it is you want to trigger....

my e-fex modulator does this, with a little frickling :hihi:

Does it do only MIDI gate or also MIDI compressor?

not totally sure what you mean with MIDI compressor, but you can trigger an ADSR via MIDI and route it to volume or any dry/wet control so it could give you "compressor-like" effects :)

There are a few midi gates around....I vaguely remember one called Migagate a while back. What host are you using?...there's a good midigate included in Cubase.

As for midi comp....can't say I've ever heard of one, but you shouldn't really have need of one. Use one with a sidechain connected to the output of a VSTi played by midi - the same thing (in fact you'd have more control that way, as you can shape the envelope of the VSTi sound to really finetune your compression). The ones that spring to mind are Kjaerhus GUP, Voxengo have one, MDA and Otium Compadre. I'm sure there are more though...

As far as for midi gate i use Oli larkin's AMG.
Triggered compressor - i don't see the point to trigger compressor by midi.

edit: I was wrong. :D

Guess automating the bypass is the way forward for that.

I do. Maybe want to do some ducking and doesn't want to waste an audio track. Velocity would be volume

Why would he need to waste an audio channel though? You'd simply send to the ducking compressor from the audio channel's send - Surely all hosts have more than one send nowadays? And the only reason he'd want to duck anything is to fit the 2nd channel over what's already there....if the 1st audio channel doesn't already exist, there's no need for ducking....I don't get it.... :?

As an effect not for the sake of ducking. And by audio track i mean the whole overhead of cpu, ram, disk and host channel used to do these.

Another reason would be that the multi-in sidechaing used in all the new compressors only work in Cubase.

Really? OK, I didn't know that...I just assumed the other main hosts could do it (just goes to show the old adage is true then...assumption is the mother of all f**k-ups).
