2 Reason Questions: Reverb and Rewire

Hello Everyone...
I have been using Reason and Tracktion every chance I get for about 6 months now, so I'm starting to get into some of the deeper aspects of the two programs (esp. Reason), but am still fairly new to all this.
I have two questions:
1. The reverbs in Reason sound very harsh to me--even the patches in the rv7000. I recently tried the Demo for Live 4 and the simple reverb sounded so much better right "out of the box". Even the free plugins I have used with Tracktion seem so much better. I have often used reverb to soften/thicken/deepen a sound I thought was a little thin or harsh... so if the reverb is harsh, then it's useless for that purpose. I really haven't run across any other complaints about Reason's reverbs, though... am I doing something wrong?
2. I have two frustrations about using Tracktion with Reason... 1: I think I would prefer more of a loop-based production environment (though I need to be able to record audio as well); 2: I don't find the midi implementation in Tracktion to be that great, so I end of constantly flipping back and forth from Tracktion to Reason when I'm working on audio recording and midi programming at the same time. I'm thinking about looking into another loop-based production environment that would allow me to do audio recording as well. It seems like the best option I've come across is Live 4. I've also looked at FL Studio 5, but can't quite figure out either from the demo I downloaded (though I haven't used it extensively), or from their website whether it can actually do audio recording. Any suggestions/opinions on these two programs, as well as any other programs that might work for me?
Thanks in advance for any help offered!

I personally just move from Tracktion+Reason to Live+Reason. Download the demo of Live & try it rewired, personally it worked for me, though we all have different needs & expectations of hosts.
The midi editing in Live is still fairly basic, though I much prefer the automation, as it seems more flexible & is a little easier to use when one is automating Reason device parameters from within Live, as Live correctly reports back the parameter names, rather than generic midi cc parameters.
I still believe Tracktion is a good rewire host also, depends on what you want.
Using loops (audio & midi) is excellent in Live, it was the non-linear way of working that prompted me to switch.
Regarding Reasons RV7000, personally I like it, but there's no acounting for taste is there?

- Hmmm the standard REV-7 is pretty horrid but can work as an insert effects in conjunction with a well patched combinator etc ...
That said the REV7000 is IMHO a superb Reverb processor - are you using it on Mixer sends only .
What setting's are you using . Do you us the gate and eq features because the built in eq makes a huge difference to it's sonic ouput. In Reason3 with the new MClass Para Eq and Dymanics processors Scream , REV7000 and B512 Vocoder sound radically different though.
Personally I think it's a great reverb capable of long cavern's , reversed echo's , multi-tapped delay lines and drum gated reverb and superb deep dubby delays also.
Each to their own I guess.

-Live 4.1.2 has excellent rewire implementation with Reason. I actually do all the midi sequencing from within Live and don't use Reason's sequencer much at all . I woould still keep Traktion but Live would be a good work around for you with this sort of a set up IMHO .

Have you tried the EQ on the RV7000? You can change the High Freqency Dampening and the "HI EQ" which is a shelving EQ. These are are on the front of the RV7000. You'd be surprised at what a tweak here and there will do for you in a mix because obviously every song is different and has different EQ requirements....not just for the modules on the channels but also the effects that carry that sound on after its dry source is gone.

The RV7000 is a decent reverb- I dont think its spectacular, but the spring and space echo emulations are decent enough for most things, and I dont use alot of reverb anyway. I am not a fan of ReWire, and think that it is a crappy, archaic, and clumsy interface. I like reason 3 though, so I will suffer through it...

Thanks for the replies. Maybe I just need to be a bit more patient with tweaking the rv7000.
Anybody out there that can give some info re: FL Studio's audio recording capabilities?

You need 2 things to record audio in FL:
1) producer edition
2) Asio inputs
If you go those, then recording is not bad, if alittle clunky. It works great if you are only going to need a few tracks of streaming audio, I find that once I get much past 8 tracks, FL starts lagging. However, I dont use FL for multitracking, as Sonar is much better suited for this task.

Thanks for the info on FL. As much as I like the gui and some of the features, I think I'm going with something else...
