The general consensus here at KVR seems to be go with SS2 if you have to choose. But I'm guessing by the time you are ready to purchase, there will be a ST2 ungrade that may make it even more difficult to decide. I have both and tend to use SS2 the most. Love 'em both!

SS2 has the best accoustic piano and can do some wicked synth weirdness more readily. However, I think the ST2 interface may be a bit better (I use it to play the SS2 sounds--I've forgotten what the real differences are). Plus, isn't SS2 cheaper? I think it is. Again, it just seems to be a prevailing opinion here for SS2, but it's totally a matter of personal choice. Just me, but I think if I had purchased ST2 by itself, I'd be jonesing for SS2 based on the opinions and reviews, whereas if I'd got SS2 first, I probably wouldn't have got ST2 as my next major purchase. Purely subjective, no real help to you! BTW, even though SS2 is marketed as more narrow-focus soundset-wize than ST2, SS2 has all the organs, synths, basses, etc. to do a lot of work with.
Either way, I don't think you'll be unhappy!

I would think the sounds upgrade sounds would be $100, but better wait on squids to be sure. COOL SQUIDS!! This is a great deal! Don't forget to use harmonygardens as a referrer to get your epointz!
