eBay aren't serious about anything.

They allow the same old cowboys back on again with changed nicks and the same wAreZ dudes turn up week after week.

They allow companies who trade out of a phone booth to take PayPal from you and then f**k off.

They don't respond constructively to complaints.

Sod eBay. Who needs 'em ?

This is an issue that has been getting worse at the UK version of ebay over the last few months. I think it has been bad at the international/US one for a long time.

Tee problem now is that you try and sell legitimate software and some dick is selling a copy for £10 - how do you compete. I am going to ask ebay for a refund for my latest adverts as the amount of pirate software on there is too much and they seem incapable of doing anything about it.

Post

The best thing that I've found to do is complain to the software companies. They care. I had a conference call with MOTU about this jerk on eBay that's selling copies of DP and Propellerheads stuff.

You're right, though. eBay doesn't care. As long as they're getting their money from the ad, they just don't give a shit. If you ever see a guy named Graig Markel AKA recoverydeals on eBay... he's selling pirate copies of his own studio software! I guess he's not making it as a musician and has to sell other people's work. Disgusting.

wrong - they are very serious about earning money.

Yeah ! Right on, actually :(

If we're talking the *beware* names, I can add to the list:

Beware anyone who, after aliases have been resolved, turns out to be called
Simon Alexander. This man is a thief. He is maybe around eBay because that way he can peddle his nicked gear easily.

He cleared out my studio in England some time back on the pretence of taking some gear to sell off for me, then claimed it was all nicked out of the van while he was in a pub ! ! I lost 2 Strats, a Fender bass combo, 2 Atari's, a Casio CZ1 and shedloads of outboard.

The man is a 24-carat shit.

I have scoured eBay for a legal Cubase SX for months now - for every 1 that I find there must be 10 illegal ones.

What gets me is how blatant these gits are - here is a quote from one of the sellers pages
Condition: New
- ummmm - new items usually come sealed in a box with books, registration details - not on a CD-R in a jewel case
I USED THIS PROGRAM 2 MAKE MY 14 TRACK ALBUM
- I wonder how he would feel if anyone copied and sold that behind his back
IF YOU WERE TO BUY THIS PROGRAM IN THE SHOPS, IT WOULD COST ON AVERAGE £800 - £1000
- ugh!? do you know of anyone who paid £800 - £1000 for it?
I AM GIVING YOU THE CHANCE TO BUY THIS FANTASTIC MUSIC PROGRAM WHERE YOU CAN MAKE 1000'S OF SONGS, BEATS, INSTRUMENTALS, VOCALS, SOUND EFFECTS AND MUCH MORE
- what a nice guy 8)
BUY NOW AND RECEIVE COOL EDIT PRO AND 1 SAMPLE CD FREE
wow - what a really nice guy

And this quote just puts the cream on the cake
Q: You deliver this USB Dongle or not?
A: instead of the dongle there is a crack, the program will work 100%
 I despair

There once was a warez eBay seller
Whose description was hard on my smeller.
When I emailed, he cursed.
No, my bank won't disburse
Money to such a vile bottom-dweller.
I bought a CD of "Vocal Hit Samples" a month ago or so. I really needed some vox samples. Turns out that most of the CD was just lo-fi samples of movie dialogue. I should have contacted the seller first and asked him what KIND of vocal hits he was selling.

I'm currently developing stock photo CDs to sell on Ebay. But I'm shooting my own photos, thank you very much... not ripping off somebody else's.

I've reported quite a few warez sellers to EBay, I don't know if they did anything about it though... should have checked I guess...
