Barcarolle from Tales of Hoffman -- Jarc Offenbarc, erm, I mean Jacques Offenbach

The most over-wrought version ever of...

Nessun Dorma ("Don't None of Y'all Sleep") -- Giaccomo Puccini ("Jackie Dogleg")

Whuff; believe me, nobody's sleeping. Those cymbals apparently crashing on top of the mic did it for me. =(@.@)=

I had the 12" single of that one, and at first I thought I was completely nutters, because the normal version starts with a hit on a drum, and that's what I heard the first time I played it. The next time I put it on, to show some friends my great find, it didn't start with a bang, but with slow Jesus and Mary Chain guitars, and I started getting confused. I tried again. I flipped it, and tried again. And again. no drum.
After quite a few times, all of a sudden - Boom, there it was again.
It turned out that there were two versions of the song on side A, and they were intertwined, both starting at the edge of the vinyl and ending nwear the hole, so that I couldn't know which version the needle would hit when I played it. Clever, but utterly confusing when the first version didn't start for about 20 times...

Great song, though. I still give Bjørk time when she releases new stuff because of that song.
