I was at this guys house today (someone I have known for years but more a friend of a friend)...a real know it all if you know what I mean...but he dropped out in ninth grade...so I'm looking at his stereo and one speaker is on the floor and the other is 4 feet up on a shelf (they're large speakers to boot). I said you should make some stands and get those on the same level. He asked why, I explained that it didn't sound as good as it could. He said bullshit

He then said "I thought you knew about recording and stuff, but you don't know anything about sound"

he went to say "I walk in the room and no matter where I'm at it sounds the same." (I didn't have the heart to tell him he was right, no matter where you were in the room it sounded like crap). I said that's probably true but I have a trained ear, I hear it...he laughed and said "a trained ear....that's a good one"...he says "I guess I don't need to hear your music because apprently you have no idea of what you are doing"

So I tried to explain the difference in reflections is tremendous...he said "wtf reflections are you talking about, it's not a mirror it's a speaker...you really are stupid"...I said "I am if I stay here any longer" and left...

at that point you should have grabbed the speaker that was on the four foot shelf, thrown it on the floor, and said, "problem fixed....balanced stereo sound dickweed"

...then left.

what a butt if he talks to ppl like that.. after hearing the first words out of his mouth in that way I'd have been gone..

I used to get upset about people like that, but now I derive a certain amount of pleasure watching the idiots speak out of their arses...

As my Dad always told me - "It's better to keep your mouth shut and let the world think you're an idiot than open it and remove all possible doubt".

I know he wasn't the first to say it, but you listen more when it's your Dad.

he's been that way all his life, today he was in bad mood I guess, no surprise he's single...he talks like a jerk sometimes, but he is actually good guy, he's very honest and trustworthy. His only problem is (and this far from the first conversation like this we've had) he's not that smart...he tries real hard to fit in with those who are, however he fails to see how dumb he looks when he says these things. Other things he has said "black flies don't bite" once we were talking about a compound mitre saw...I said (btw he's in construction) the mitre was the table angle and the head could be angled for bevels...he said only routers bevel, a bevel is a rounded edge

the table is the mitre and the head angle is the compound. I asked if he knew what compound meant, he said I just explained it to you. I told him he was quite mistaken, it's called a compound saw because it does both and compound is derived from the word combine...again I was stupid

But think about it, these are our audiences, we make our songs sound perfect. Apprently we are the only ones who care because John Q Public couldn't tell you the difference between a sine wave and fans doing the wave at a sporting event. That's why I posted this...I think I'm too critical of my own music (and assume I'm not alone), but then I can't change so what the hell...
