Anyone using this, do you find it always at least a little gritty, or can you get a clean sound out of it?

I only have the demo and have tried it a couple times. Can't tell if I'm getting the distrotion I perceive from another source, though.

Also, anyone have problems getting Valvetone '62 to work? I have them both in the Pluggo Runtime and HT works, but VT just beeps and passes no signal.

Thanks!

Dave

I've been playing with the HT and VT demos. VT works fine for me. I haven't gotten any sounds out of HT that I would characterize as anywhere close to "gritty" unless I crank up the Fire too much. But it is definitely a character EQ, and not a transparent one.

I'm looking forward to the PC group buy on these.

Where? When? Or is that wishful thinking?

Hmm, that's good to know.

Where do you put yours, inside the "Runtime" folder?

As far as distortion, maybe my input was too hot. I'll be happy if I can tame it a bit because I love this thing on vocals, where I think it excels in getting the "tube mic" flavor with certain boosts.

It can't be your only EQ, though. I don't much care for the graphic readout, which is too small. I prefer interfaces like Voxengo's.

I ususally like Big Graphical interfaces showing you whats happening,

But what Hydratone does, is encourage you to use your ears not your eyes.

Like the High end EQs they have sampled.

Damon from Tritone has said there will be one this summer: http://www.tritonedigital.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=240

I believe I put the Tritone DLL's in a separate folder from Runtime. I was just happy to get them to work. I had to move things around a bit before my hosts would read them.

Yeah, among others, I think Voxengo or Elemental Audio EQ's would be great when you want a transparent EQ to fix some problems, then you can apply HT or VT when you want to add some character. I'm looking to have a mix of transparent surgical EQ's and some "character" EQ's that color the sound in a pleasing way.

Angeltone should come out in the next few months. It sounds like it will be more transparent than HT, though I suspect the interface will be similar.

Curiouser and curiouser...

Valvetone works fine in Gigastudio 3, as does HT. Only HT works in Tracktion.

VT '62 is amazing, though. Try slapping it on your samples if you use any. Makes everything smooth and sweet!

I think I will buy both next month, whether or not there's a group buy.

i agree.

i use hydratone as my main eq now, although its a fuking cpu muncher so have to use other eqs for less important stuff like shelving/transparent stuff.

pc optimisations should be soon though.

Is pc optimization actually in the works? I don't feel an overwhelming need for another eq, but I love eqs and have felt a little left out on this one. Thing is, I know I don't need another cpu killer, so I've stayed clear of it.
Grist for the glamour mill.

Don't discount it as a kind of "polish" (no, not Polish :hihi: ) EQ for the mastering process. Great for adding an overall mid boost/ treble bite that is very musical and delivers nice impact to the final mix.

i wouldn't count on it as it uses convolution and is written with max/msp...

Post

They are going to hire someone to do SSE optimizations. Also I think they are bugging Cycling'74 about implementing some optimizations for a few MAX/MSP components (although this is much less likely to happen).

great news! i'll probably buy valvetone soon, their stuff is top-notch.

One caveat: at this point VT cannot support 96 KHz.
