How do i get this effect? Clip inside

this is kinda araw effect im not sure how they achieved it...its in the thich corus..maybe some distortion or something, im not sure?

What i`m hearing;
-Two separate vocal recordings.
a-the childrens chorus.(recorded thin and centered)
b-the soloists vocal on top.(recorded close mic/warmer w/different word phrasings.

The effect we hear is the soloists different word phrasings that sound a bit like pre-delay.(you can get a similar sound by using a reverb/delay with "pre-delay"and no reverberation.
