Because, it often means the end of the parasite's food source, and subsequently, the end of the parasite.

mine sucks so i'm joining the dark side as soon as I get my tax rebate. yeah, i've heard all that "A bad workman always blames his tools" stuff but mine really does suck. at least it doesn't crash every 10 minutes like it did in the older versions.

not in this case at all, since the host is just there for the parasite to grow. Some flies do that, they lay eggs in caterpillars, those die when the eggs hatch & the worms eat the caterpillar, which they don't need anymore. The alien chestbuster does the same.
