From the lovely Kjaerhus people recently:

Due to the few signups we have received, mostly by loyal customers who already owns our GAC-1 or GCO-1, we have decided not to charge the extra $18.48, which is the difference between the actual price and the entree fee. We do not want those who supported this group buy to loose due to the absence of all those who did not!

Kjaerhus have gone up even more in my estimation (if that's possible). So I and a few others got the lovely GUP-1 at a real knockdown price. I would have been happy at the 23% reduction price already...so this is a superb bonus.

Now this is how to gain a loyal customer base, I'd say. That was a very nice surprise to find in my in-box.

I'm stunned - thanks again Torben.

Edit: It's a beautiful compressor by the way.

Ok, I used to respect Kjaerhus Audio until I read this.

a: A group buy has rules. They should not be broken, otherwise what is the point of having a group-buy?
b: Torben pisses me off when he talks like previous customers should feel they are required to purchase everything he does. Read the words...

That really is a very unfair thing to say. I don't think I'll ever buy another Kjaerhus product after this. And please, if you think I'm being a prick, its not because I missed out on a deal. I've got GCO-1 I did not need another compressor.

Group guys have rules, and the people who did participate knew what they risked - they risked paying 66 dollars instead of 48. And they were fine with that, otherwise they wouldn't have signed up.... but then Torben feels he has to make some kind of gesture to make them happy... nah sorry, I think that is a dishonest thing to do.

I don't like to be made to feel that I let a complete stranger down, as if I should have bought this latest product just because the ones I currently own are good.

Man.. you want to sell plugins, you don't keep rehashing the same ideas into newer plugins and brand them all as "mastering solutions"

People did not support the group buy because they did not need or want the plugin. How hard is this to understand? I'm pretty confident that those who don't own GCO-1 either signed up or have another plug that they prefer.

Am I just reading this wrong, or does anyone agree with me? f**k it, maybe it is me, but whatever. I don't like being taken into consideration as if I've done something wrong when clearly I (and all the others who didn't participate) haven't.

Jesus, you're right there.

Torben stated most of his buyers were already his customers - that's why he waived the extra - so it's exactly people like Alcomiztli who gained. You're a loyal Kjaerhus customer, you get potentially rewarded for being one, and then he cops a load of bullshit for it. Where's the sense in that? That's one sure way of ensuring as a customer that you never will benefit from it, because he's less likely to do that again if he gets bullshitted for it.

Nobody who didn't participate lost anything (too many negatives in there methinks). You didn't want that compressor, you ain't lost. If you did want it, but feel pissed for missing the deal, then tough titty for not joining. And as a future Kjaerhus customer you haven't lost either - in fact you could stand to gain if that ever happens again and you participated. You also have the pleasure of knowing your product from them is by a developer who stands by his customers - which is you. How in fairy fuckland did you lose anything or get slighted?

Nah...let's get back to having developers who dislike their customers, who never give anything away for free, who never do group buys because of miserable shits who moan about them when they do.

I never heard such a complete load of cowpat.

Dude you're off on this one. I don't see how you can complain about Torben having given people who did join in an extra deal for having done so. It's absolutely within his right to do so, they're HIS products after all. Even if you didn't join in on the Group Buy because of the price the product was supposed to end up selling at, big deal. It's still not your call to be upset over how Torben chooses to run his company, obviously this was just Torben's way of saying thanks to the people who did join in. Now that sounds noble to me, but if it doesn't sound that way to you, all I can tell you is that you're looking at this the wrong way, and taking it way too personally.

Oh for fucksake. I already said I did not want the compressor! I already have the GCO-1. I also have the GMO-1, GPP-1, and GEQ-1. I bought the Golden bundle literally a WEEK before the GAC was released. I passed up on buying the GAC also. I bought the GPP-1 in another group-buy that was done a while ago.

Didn't you people even read Torben's email in the first post??? He literally admitted that it was the non-participators who got you the sweet deal, not the participators!

You msy not realise it, but this sentence puts a burden on the people who didn't buy it. Now we're supposed to feel guilty about not participating. Well f**k that, I am not going to feel guilty. In fact, you should be thanking me, If a few more people did participate, Torben might not have given you the extra discount after all, and you'd end up paying more.

It is right there. He is saying that he feels guilty about not being able to give a sweet deal, and rather than blaming his own product's lack of enticement, he blames the people who did not participate. I guess all those people are just numbskulls who don't know what they're missing out on. Because this new product is really something you can't live without.

I'm a little disappointed at missing out - I decided to pull my VISA card out at around 11:00pm NZ time on the 15th (thinking we are 1 day ahead) but the group buy had gone from the website. But that's my fault. I also own GCO-1, and it's my first call compressor based on sound quality. I would like side-chaining and wet/dry balance, so I would reluctantly have spent the cash to get these. Torben gives us one of the best ranges of freebies, and some of the best shareware stuff at any price. You can't be too hard on him! I do hope that he doesn't do a Voxengo on us, and keep on repackaging more compressers with variations to try to make us buy them all - I won't be playing that game anymore. But thats the free market - until such time as somebody else makes a better one, Kjaerhus rules. And if I desperately need those extra features, the full price isn't that excessive anyway.
