The logo was done in-house by the Muon web-team. The design was based on a mathematical rendering of a double moebius knot.

Dave I'll have to admit I love the whole brand you have created around 'particles'. I like the idea and the visual look, everything about it.

In fact is was this, just as much as the sound and the instrument interfaces that led me to buy Tau Pro & Electron off you guys.

Your marketing slant sure does work for me.

Ahhh...Positron. Imagine a synth with the multi-timbral capabilities and filters of DS404, the oscillators of Tau Pro and the control/modulation capabilities of Electron. Add unison modes, portamento/legato modes and some other toys and you've quite possibly got a monster...and a monster of a GUI to design as well so people can actually use it. That's where we're at with this one, there's a lot of work to do.

The full spec of Neutron will be identical to SR202 except it will support more types of sample, including stereo. It's designed to be one of those "load up some samples and get to it" kind of drum samplers, rather than a devastatingly complex beast with a zillion options. Sort of "small but perfectly formed" idea. There'll also be a batch of wicked, cutting-edge dance orientated kits to go with it. Hope you all approve!

Does this mean it won't have more audio outs or multiple velocity layers? I would have thought these were fairly logical inclusions along with the better sample support that you've already mentioned.

I've always said if Muon release a Pro version of SR202 that I'd buy it...but it would have to be a "Pro" version of course.

Incidentally, I don't think I'll be able to keep my hands off the Positron either. I'm fairly set against buying many new synths, but if it's going to be another Muon masterpiece it might be a little difficult to resist.

The first version of Neutron will definately not include sample layers.

Thing is, there are a lot of drum samplers on the market out there that positively bristle with a million features. The feedback we got from SR202 users who loved the product was that they really like the filters, FX and the simplicity of operation.

So with Neutron, we wanted to create something with the same good aspects as SR202. Neutron is designed so that you can load up some samples, mangle them with the synthesis functions and get creating drum parts straight away. Its more targetted at people who don't need extensive multi-layered acoustic kits.

Well then Dave. I guess my question would be, what is the incentive for a satisfied SR202 user to buy Neutron?

I mean, is the only difference being able to read stereo files and some other formats that haven't been decided yet? How important could the import of stereo files be? Especially when there's only 1 stereo output? Would it be worth $50US?

I agree with what is good about the SR202, which is exactly why I was hoping for velocity layers and maybe a couple of extra audio outs. It would make it comparable to the big guys with what I consider to be more potential for fun. Easy to set up quickly, great mangling and the most important of the pro features for professional accoustic kit set ups.

I'm still reasonably happy to invest, but I'm not so sure I would be if this was not heading in that sort of direction eventually. Is it likely that the features would be considered for Neutron version 2.0 or something like that?

What we want to do is to start with something pretty similar to SR202 and then take it in the logical direction in future updates. This is the one key thing that even the most satisfied SR202 user simply won't get - new features in the future. Oh, and a batch of really top-notch stereo kits.

I'm not at liberty to talk about the complete Neutron spec right at this minute, as there are still discussions going on internally here. Watch this space for more info as time progresses
