All the free ones I've tried have some serious sound quality issues so I'm dying to find one that does the synth justice.

Mayby a dumb question.Michael Allan Cumming wrote:All the free ones I've tried have some serious sound quality issues so I'm dying to find one that does the synth justice.
But how can an arpeggiator have "serious sound quality issues"
It actually dosn't make any sound, right?
And then: Which of that sort did you actually try

In cubase sx - use arpache SX , it's free and incredible
It can do almost everything ranging from standard arps to chord arps.
here's a small demo of the arps i've made with the arpache:
the following patterns are played in the demo:
- Guitar pattern
- Trance Arpeggiator pattern
- Trance chords
- Ambient pattern
- 303 pattern
Al these patterns are played live with the help of the arpache arpeggiator.
You can find the mp3 here: Arpache Arpeggiator patterns

Not really.speccyteccy wrote:ARPocalypse
The website says:
"Despite it’s name, ARPocalypse is not an arpegiator. ARPocalypse is a 8 step rhythmic pattern generator. Simply put it takes chords of up to six notes and plays them in a predefined sequence in sync with your sequencer."

That's very true.Quiffy wrote:In cubase sx - use arpache SX , it's free and incredibleIt can do almost everything ranging from standard arps to chord arps.

But I fear, he wouldn't ask if he had Cubase and Arpache.

Any effect and/or plug-in that you run a synth or a .wav through will alter the sound whether it "makes sound" or not.
I forget the particular plug-in but it produced a slight static sound and a "cheap casette deck" style sound quality loss.

eXT has great arp components as well as phase sculpting tools. It's a whole modular environment including a wonderful sequencer. It loads as a VST or can be run stand alone. Check it out.
Also NicFit on that forum makes some great MIDI Plugins for doing arps all for free.

but an arpeggiator is a midi plugin - it doesn't come near the audio signal path...

Most arpeggiators process the MIDI BEFORE it goes into the VSTi. But if you want an post-VSTi effect, look for Sonicbytes' GAT'r (or whatever it's called). That's there post-op arp/gator. And ERA is their pre-op arp.
And indeed eXT has a lot of arp-opportunities too.
Zero Vector and Albino have nice arps as well

Sorry. Then you don't know what an arpeggiator is.Michael Allan Cumming wrote:Any effect and/or plug-in that you run a synth or a .wav through will alter the sound whether it "makes sound" or not.

An arpeggiator is a MIDI device. It produces no sound at all. Merely instructions for generating sound.
It don't affect the native audio quality of a synthesizer in any way, nor does it produce any sound.
This means, that you can virtually pass arpeggios to each synthesizer, which can receive MIDI information. The sound is then that what the synthesizer finally produces.
So an arpeggiator is ALSO NOT an effect, where you can pass audio signals throught. Thats an "gater" then.
You probably talk about a tone generator with already integrated arpeggiator? Or a trancegate?
What host are you using?

Then you still have the best advice now (Arpache, used with any synthesizer).Michael Allan Cumming wrote:Actually I do have Cubase but am still learning.

Or a Gater of your choice (I think, there is one also inside Cubase...).

there are 2 gates in cubase. One is called midi gate where you can define your own pattern gates, and one is called chopper which follows predefined paths like sine, square, etc and is syncable to the tempo.

Does his DAW support MIDI plugins?
You need one that does to use a MIDI ARP.
