Anyone Up For An EQ A/B test?

I've sent some files to Bobby, where I run the .mp3 through URS A, Fulltec and 2 of the 4 Sony Oxford EQ types (1+4). Note that the URS don't have a hi-pass filter nad using the low bands for that didn't bring the desired results, so I just didn't use any hi-pass filtering on those. Also, the boosting with the URS A took place @ 3K and 7K and on the Fulltec @ 3K and 8K.

Interesting, thanks or placing these up. Which Pultec were you using, the regular or the Pro version?bobby yarrow wrote:Felt I was bratty before, and I'm a little too whatever to work on anything else this morning, so I did a little eq sample pack. Don't know how useful it is; see for yourself.
The files are at www.theyarrows.com/eqtest
I put the dry file up, cause you want to hear it, but also in case anybody else wants a go. I did all the eq prints off the mp3, not off the original .wav file, so the field is level.
It's a section of acoustic guitar. The target was, high-pass at 110 with as much cut as I could get; high shelf at 8K, Q of 1, +3db; and, bump of 5 db at 3.2K, fairly narrow.
Almost every EQ required some deviation from the target. The pultec was toughest, as the numbers don't line up with anything and there's no high shelf. I ran 2 instances and did what I could.
The test up there are:
Avalon 737 (hardware)
UAD Pultec
URS N
TC EQSat
PSP MasterQ
If anybody wants to add more, email me at bobby at theyarrows dot com and I'll put them up.
Cheers.
Thanks,
DennisT

Akis's files are up, adds to the array. I used the regular pultec, 2 instance, one for bass cut and high boost and the other for the narrower, bigger boost.
Should have said, I normalized my files to damn near 0db after processing.

Hi Bobby, quick question (and I'll prolly e-mail you later tonight or tomorrow with a few more EQs), is it just me or does the Avalon 737 seem to have a lot more of room sound than the others? I mean it almost sounds like there's been ambience added to that one, that's not just EQ.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

Nicely done. Please do not forget the Tritone Digital's Hydratone. I've heard a lot of chatter about this EQ. It might be a EQ Killer.bobby yarrow wrote:Akis's files are up, adds to the array. I just listened again, and, damn, you're right! So, I'm thinking about it, and here's what happened: this section was from an acoustic-and-voice session I did over the weekend. The singer wants everything bone dry, but I snuck in a little ambience (using that AAR reverb, btw). I solo'd the acoustic gtr in a section where she wasn't singing, pulled everything off it, and used that for the test . . . but I forgot about the little ambiance send. When I did the avalon, it printed the reverb, and then when I exported, it printed it again.Funkybot wrote:Hi Bobby, quick question (and I'll prolly e-mail you later tonight or tomorrow with a few more EQs), is it just me or does the Avalon 737 seem to have a lot more of room sound than the others? Gold star for you, bad for me. I'll post when it's fixed.

The best native EQ Iv tried is Waves Clone-Q. This thing is more versatile than any other Iv used, and sounds fantastic (better than URS imo). I dont have the plug unfortunately, but if anyone does it should definately make the list along with RenEQ and Q.

Hey Bobby, I'm just glad I was actually hearing what I thought I was. I really thought I was going nuts for a few passes, then had to listen some more just to make sure before posting.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

Just for kicks, I sent Bobby a sample from Wavearts Trackplug... it's very controllable, so I was able to use the exact settings... (high-pass at 110 with as much cut as possible; high shelf at 8K, Q of 1, +3db; and, bump of 5 db at 3.2K, fairly narrow.).

SpinAudio spin EQ & Ultrafunk Sonitus parametric clips from diverdee added. I can't seem to play the spinaudio clip, but I'm not at my music computer.
Is this interesting? I'm undecided.
