Hello all,

I was wondering if somebody could please point
me in the right direction to learn about sending
my stuff out to labels. I want to do it right and
don't want to come off as the amateur that I am.

I was thinking the basics, Din Emante, Delsin,
City Centre Offices, Ghostly International, etc.
I have a unique sound so I think I have a chance
and I'm getting to old to wait.

yeah and it depends on wath music / and labels you are going to send your stuff....!

I'm pretty sure both City Centre Offices and Ghostly International are flooded with unsolicited material. Make sure you read their demo policies first, follow it to the letter, and always make sure your name and contact info is all over everything (not just a letter or leaflet, but on the disc you send in, on the mailing envelope, etc).

Keep in mind most small labels put out music they like, rather than music than it is unique or has potential to be big. In many cases, they'll only put out stuff by people they know (either personally or from another label).

You're best bet is to get them to know you. Send an email, express interest in putting on a show with them or being on acompilation and see what that gets you. Also try to build up some attention by getting your stuff reviewed around the web, played on radio, or maybe try to build a reputation locally.

Touring helps, if your schedule allows it. Otherwise, network a lot. Make friends. Compilations are a good bet for exposure, particularly in niche genres.

As Shamann says: You're best bet is to get them to know you.
Try to talk to one of their acts when they are playing... often these guys are happy to talk to somebody when they are away from home and don't know anybody

Thanks for the tips. So as I understand it, it's
best to send a short demo CD that gets right to the point?

I just recently moved to the Northern California
area and so I will have opportunities to speak
to these people at shows. Lusine from Ghostly
came here about a month ago but I missed it.

Have you guys heard anything about net labels being
a good way to get noticed? I like some of the stuff on Kahvi.org but I think my production is better than most of that.

Also can anyone point me in the right direction to research going independent? I know it is a tad naive
to assume I could start a succesful label on the back
of my music but I'm still curious.

I am having so much fun with my tunes lately I think
the world should hear what I'm up to.
