What are the main advantages in Cubase SL compared to Cubase VST 5?
Are there any functions/things that actually are better in Cubase VST 5? Howbout the midi editing?

VST5 was a great tool for Midi editing. The functionality had grown from the Atari days, and almost anyhting could be done with Midi data, and quite easily.
SX1/SL1 took a step back in the Midi features, but by SX3/SL3, the features are just about all back.
I find (in SX3) Midi tracking editing, routing and so on to be great, and with the addition of a much better audio engine than in VST, the SX/SL package is much better for my needs.
