I have a quick question relatuing to Project 5...

I love the way Acid Pro handles audio, but the midi sucks

I love the way Orion Pro handles midi and VSTi, but BOY does the audio suck :-o

I've had a look at P5, and it seems to be the best of both worlds: Acid-like audio (though not quite as good) and ease of use with midi and VSTi

Is this correct, or have I totally got the wrong end of the stick with this application ?

You have the right end of the stick! P5 version 2's workflow and feature set improvements over v1.5 plus the new Dimesion Sampler make it the best all rounder host IMO. Sure, some host do some things a bit better but usually at the expense of something else. Cakewalk have really come up trumps with this one.

No, you have the right end of the stick :hihi:
Seriously, the P5 2.0 update is a major improvement over the previous 1.x version. Even though I passed, on getting P5 1.x, (the originaL available features & workflow paradigm, just did not work for me), I am getting the new and improved P5 2.0 (still waiting on my copy to arrive, from Cakewalk). Among the many new features and enhancements is both rewire host and slave capabilites. Using the demo, I have had P5 2.0 rewired to SONAR (you can actually drag audio tracks from SONAR's timeline, during playback, into Project 5) and I have also had ACID Pro 5, rewired to Project 5. It's open host environment, makes it a very flexible music app to work with. It is best to check out the demo, there are a few demo limitations, like no Track Freeze, it's Save Disabled, there are beeps while in rewire mode etc., but it should still give you an idea, if it will work for you, on your system and your workflow.

What are some suggestions for tutorial material that will help me get up to speed on Project5, v.2? Other than experience and trial and error...I've been trying to wade through the manual but so far (and it might just be my head space right no) I'm having a hard time grasping how to effectively utilize it. Do people make their own MIDI loops? Use commercial MIDI loops? Audio loops? Not use loops at all?

After playing with the demo for about a month all up and ordering 1.5 wks ago my P5 finally rocked up today...it rocks! :band: Dimension really is a cracker and it's a shame the demo doesn't have it for people to play with. Really easy to whip things up in it and though I have limited experience it has my thumbs up that's for sure. You've seen this demo at this years MESSE at the Edirol booth right? http://www.sonicstate.com/news/shownews.cfm?newsid=2122#

thanks, philly...I'm a big reader but I seem to learn better by watching

Project 5 2.0 has one of the cleanest and quikckest work flows out there, the time stretching is not quite as good as acids, though its pretty close. I can get alot more done in P5 than I ever could in Acid, and dimension truely is a great plug.

I got my copy of p52 last week and I am absolutely in love. The way that creative workflow happens in this program is unmatched. And as mentioned by everyone else, Dimension is amazing. Simply put, project5 version 2 is a joy to use.
I'm glad the c major scale was invented before copyright law

There were some very nice tutorial videos for 1.5 that would probably help you get an idea of how to learn 2.0 even though its a little different, but I don't know where they went....

I always see "URINATED" instead of "UNINITATED" at first glance when this thread hits the top of the new posts list..

How is the workflow in P5 when no loops are being used?

Post

Everything is linear a'la sonar- but you can pull up the pattern editor below the track view and edit midi/audio on the fly without having to change views. What specifically do you wanna know TeeLang?
