I'm trying to delete the MS Outlook folder from my computer. When I do this, my computer tells me I can't because Outlook is running (but I haven't started it or anything).

Then I go into the folder and delete the files individually. However, when I delete msoe.dll or msoeres.dll, though they will be deleted, they immediately reappear (before my very eyes! ;) ).

How can I turn Outlook off and delete it (and all its affiliate files)?

Many thanks.

EDIT: It's Outlook Express (not just outlook).

Did you try simply de-installing it? Deleting the files by hand will gain you nothing but trouble btw.

Thanks for the tip, but that won't help me get rid of Outlook (I tried!).

Any ideas?

It might be time for me to get this, though I was hoping for a less-than-$40 solution. (Well, I guess it is only $39.95! :hihi: )

Tried this already. Outlook Express was already unticked. I tried ticking it and then unticking it again, but to no avail!

Hmmm....

Thanks though!

Something in the background seems to be resinstalling the Outlook Express files. What could this be?

.inf files, .bat files, and entries in the registry.

At least, that was how the virus I kept deleting kept re-installing itself.

System Restore, perhaps? Always there you when don't need it.

Try typing "services.msc" (no quotes) in the RUN box. This brings up all kinds of stuff you can turn off and might be the way I turned off Outlook, can't remember at this point. But you can do it, there's tons of info out there if you search on it. Look for Black Viper's site, he's got tons of info on streamlining XP.
