well the fact that US english is the international standard says a lot. Maybe is not the "original" but it is the most common. Just like Spain has the original Spanish, but Mexico has the "Standard" therefore more commonly used.

I wouldn't consider it borrowing, since we used to be Brits ourselves at one point. When we separated, one of the things we did was to improve the language. Instead of borrowing it, we simply perfected it.CypherOne wrote:ah that explains the need to borrow ours then...McLilith wrote:Oh sure, any culture can start a language.
Oh sure, the well-educated English have that lovely accent, which sounds so formal and proper. There's no denying the appeal of that. However, their spelling is horrible. Just look up some of the words used by the English people in any American dictionary, and you'll see what poor spelling skills the English have.
take care,

To be honest, I can't think of another person being anywhere near so famous for playing Soprano Saxophone. In fact, I can't even think of another Soprano Saxophone person period.kazi wrote:I guess you could argue Kenny G is the standard to base saxophone playing against too.
You might not like his music, but he has to have done something right to achieve the fame he has.
Next, you'll be trying to tell everyone that Chuck Mangione isn't the final word in Flugelhorn playing!

Uh what about Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, Sidney Bechet, Bill Evans, Jane Ira Bloom.....In fact, I can't even think of another Soprano Saxophone person period
KennyG doesn't even qualify in light of these names and many others.

Okay, Coltrane I've heard of. I don't know if I've actually heard any of his work... So, sadly Kenny G still has something that Coltrane doesn't, and that's massive exposure.Beardedone wrote:Uh what about Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, Sidney Bechet, Bill Evans, Jane Ira Bloom.....In fact, I can't even think of another Soprano Saxophone person period

I readily admit that I have precious little exposure to jazz. That probably explains why I don't know the other people in your list. Heck, I barely know who Kenny G is. If it weren't for all those TV spots trying to sell his records, I probably wouldn't have even heard his music. On second thought, I vaguely remember there was a song of his that got some radio airplay on a station that I don't normally listen to. Because of that, I probably heard it being played in the background at some shopping mall or something.

No seriously, I think I have heard of Bill Evans, but I couldn't describe a single thing he ever did.
