Gusatav Mahler - Symphony No.2 - O Röschen rot!
(Claudio Abbado/Waltraud Meir/Wiener Philharmoniker)

Just about everyone disagrees with me, but I think that this actually tops Beethoven's 9th as the best symphony with voice. Truly outstanding, beautiful stuff.

That point where all the drummers in the world go at it full tilt towards the end is one of the great moments of mankind, IMO. I'm with you. I get tired of the hysterical sopranoes in the last movement of the 9th anyway.

Listening to Mahler's 2nd now, thanks for reminding me.
