Yes, I'm loving it. The "brit" and "california" models aren't quite different enough to me, though-- they're more like 2 slightly different flavours of the heavy amp flavour.darcyb62 wrote:greg... You still liking the GDI21? I'm thinking of picking one up.
I think of it more as only 2 different amps instead of 3: "Heavy/Crunch" amp and "Crunch/Clean" amp. The way the clean amp breaks up isn't quite as smooth as I would like, but then again many of the tones I want to emulate aren't just an amp, but are actually a Tube Screamer (or other stompbox) in front of an amp, so I shouldn't expect a very specific and barebones amp modeler to be able to do "amp PLUS fx" sounds, per se.
I do intend to post a whole stack of sound samples if you don't mind waiting; otherwise, I still think it's $50 CDN ($35 USD) well spent. I've spent more than that for plug-ins that have given me less satisfaction.
Midiworks, I haven't tried the demo of the AC30 model yet, but even if it's not exactly like a true AC30, I'm still imagining that it'll produce tones you couldn't get from the Rednef (a Twin) or the JCM900 (Marshall) models...? Those two are completely dissimilar to a Vox. At least the NI one is trying, so it should be a BIT closer, no?
Guess instead of asking, I should just try the demo.

Hmm just dowloaded and installed.
Then I got a message:
Your Demo has expired.
Any ideas?
Besides the fact that I had Guitar Rig demo installed as well (that one still works)

But you will hear nothing that sounds like a Vox...
Actually I wonder why NI say so.
The last download is finished by now,
I tell you later what I think about Twang.

I did not say Guitar Suite sounds like a Vox tho !But still, you can get those results at least as good

that's how i get my signature sound. you have to rub them on the carpet first though. then you just need a cock to 1/4" adapter, $10 at radio shack. i bring a playboy with me so i can turn the effect on and off as needed.Lawnmower Of The Damned wrote:Pod/Vetta still wins for all-out balls-to-the-wall distortion.
P.S. No, I'm not aware of what placing your testicles against a wall has to do with distorted guitars either.

The AC Box demo is good... feels better than Guitar Rig!
While Guitar Rig looks nice, & is flexible, it just aint conducive to speed & ease of use in realtime.
The AC's interface is quicker & simpler - like a real amp obviously!
It's so easy to dial up a useful, usable sound... wicked!
Less juice involved in running it is obviously a plus.

Ok, here is what I think after testing all 3 amps.
(P4 2ghz here)
NI Twang, does and sounds the way it is intend to be but,
Guitar Suite's Rednef (the Twin) is the real deal.
Rednef is true to the original in sound, reaction and feel.
Uses 2% CPU instead of Twangs 12% (with reverb off)
5% it you add the free BuzzRoomverb,
compared to the 20% !!! for Twang with reverb on.
(and Roomverb sounds better and more like a Twin verb btw)
AcBox Combo, has a good and usable distortion,
easy to use and to tweak.(like all 3 NI's)
but than again, whats easier than Guitar Suite to tweak ?
Its the only one of the 3 amps I might consider if, there wouldnt be:
Guitar Suite's JMC900...
Thats a Marshall you say, RIGHT !
AcBox Combo is nothing like a AC30, so what ?
You want a really good distortion, stick with the JMC900.
At 6% CPU (with reverb) you dont need to think much
compared to the 20% for AcBox.
PlexiCombo, 11.7% CPU, thats a Marshall you say ? WRONG !
JMC900 6%, YES ! This is one.
Nothing more to say... you know what I think.
As always, go and try yourself !!!
Just found this:
After you compared the NI amps with Guitar Suite,
please go and donate the money you would have spend
to the Tsunami victims, or at least 50% !

He is right !IainF wrote:It's not only the distortion you use, it's how you use it!
Adding EQ before the distortion will give you a much wider varity of tone than adding EQ afterward. By adding EQ first you can chage the amount of distortion at different frequencies. Adding EQ afterward changes the frequency balance but not the distortion characteristics.

Have you ever played an old plexi Marshall, Midiworks? I don't think so...
They AREN'T high gain amps- all the distortion was generated by kicking the shit out of the output stage, or by using a fuzz box of some sort.
ew

What would you guys reccommend to be the best way to get the guitar signal into the computer? At the moment I plug my guitar into my PH7, DS7, and Marshall Bluescreamer, then I plug that chain in to an Alesis 6FX mixer, and then monitor that signal in my computer. But I get quite a bit of noise doing it this way.
What do you think I should change it to?
