I received an email through KVR from someone asking about my experience with Samson monitors. There was no address to reply to(and it autoreplied to a bot), so I'll do it here.

I haven't bought the monitors yet, but had a funny experience at Guitar Centre (sorry, Center). I was just there to pick up some cables, but got talking to one assistant about the Samsons. He bought a pair second hand for $300 and couldn't recommend them highly enough, but because of Samson's affiliation with Sam Ash, GC won't sell them. He all but convinced me to not buy the KRK's, M-Audio's, Alesis, etc. in the same price range they had on sale there!

Anyway... I don't know, the comparisons between the Behringers and Mackies (I currently monitor on a pair of Mackie loudspeakers 8) ) almost have me convinced, but Behringer's history with sub-living wage labour in Asia makes me hesitant.

Cheers,
Mike

wasnt me but I did ask someone else when the did get their samsons to come back and post their impressions..

that said.. I find it interesting that the sales guy didnt corral you into the pro-audio room and try to get you to buy the flavor of the month (or rather what is not selling that they have too many of)

what affiliation does sam ash have with samson??

btw what model did he recommend? resolvs or rubicons? and which ones are you considering?

As I understand it it, Samson was started by "Sam" Ash's "son".

So anyway, we were in the pro-audio room having a chat about music and Logic, when I brought up monitors. He recommended the KRK's, which I have always had an aversion to (they look god-damn terrible and I find they sound boxy). I asked if they stocked the Resolv's, which was when he told me they won't stock them, but he loves his pair (50a or 65a, ca't remember).

Anyway, I was all set on getting pair sometime in the next couple of months, but now they've got these Rubicons. I would need to give them a good listen, though; I've never heard ribbon speakers before.

Well, I use 50a because I was on a budget at the time and I think they are pretty darn good. Considering that the acoustics in my room suck, I don't know how the more "popular" higher end monitors would compare, but for most of the stuff I work on (orchestral, ambient, noise) they do the trick. Of course, I would recomend go to your local Sam Ash and test drive them before making a decision.
