I received an opportunity to produce music for a film (A love story) and this is going to be my first music production for a film.
The producer is going to do the sound tracks in Digital DTS system.
The problem is I didn't go into that 5.1 sound production before(I've only done stereo mixing), and so that I'm going to give the mixing and mastering part to one of my friend, who is having the capability to do that.
All I have is these question. Is there something I have to do when composing music, so that it would be much easier for the person who do 5.1 mixing and mastering?
I'm going to use sonar 3PE (I hope to buy Sonar 4) for this purpose. Can I do this thing with them? (I have to do all the environmental and background sounds)
I think you guys gonna help me to make this a success.

Lots of VSTs he designed for creating 5.1 and other configs. Some of the applications can split your stereo source into however many wavs you want in your spatial speaker array (or also split by eq I think, maybe I made that part up.)
EDIT
PS mostly free!

Just render the tracks out individually, then make a reference mix, then take it to your friends place and supervise the mixdown.
Technically studio fees should be included in your budget for film work anyway, so you could always find a studio in your area where film music is mixed.
