:D yea..
i'm glad this isn't too boring a subject to bring up.. thanks very much for telling me about XMplay - i'm installing the new version right now..
i just really appreciate how much work must have gone into these tracks.. not just the tedious pattern sequencing, but the effort apparent in the quality, originality and imaginativeness of the samples... i'm in the process of encoding a bunch to mp3.. don't think i'll ever stop listening..
www.traxinspace.com has a message saying that the guy - Saurin - is working on a graduate degree, but as soon as he's finished with that he'll get to work putting the site back online :D for those who didn't ever visit the place - they had tons of mods and also quite a number of free mp3s in every genre you can think of just about.. for a time they also sold stuff like t-shirts and mugs and cds like big compilations of their more famous artists - they also mailed me free cds with tons of great mp3s! :)

Anyone remember the Tracked Aggression/R.E.D. disks? :hihi: Or Vuohisoturit?
God, Skarf was a funny guy...

god.. there are SO many music disks out there - scene.org has new ones all the time, but i havent found a single one that wasnt either just like industrial noise or sounded exactly like the song from some PC demo i'd seen 10 times.. :-(

how come you people act like it's all dead?
many of the people on the demoscene are still using trackers and mods or xms for demos (demo: generated 3d images and text and fx and sounds and whatnot, usually in 64kb) because of the small file size. 1 wave length at 44.1 khz is about .5 kb (I think) and with loop points, 1 square wavelength is all the sample you need for a 2 minute long piece. This means filesize under 20 kb. Only prob with this is most of it is MS-DOS, which is fading fast. The single tracker that is showing signs of promise for the future is Skale Tracker, which supports VST and VSTi and can be itself a VSTi, and is currently on version .8. It is the successor to FastTracker 2 and only has a few bugs and standard FX issues to sort out. Get xmplay and check out http://chiptune.com/'s .xm, .mod, .mo3 and .it sections. A great example of chiptunes made by a tracker is Emerald Box by Conspiracy.

Chiptunes are quite alive, my friends. I'm working on one as I type.

i have just taken xmplay for a test on stone-aged .it files. It rocks! Even with filtered stuff. Thank you for bringing this up. :D

I started into music in 1993 on composer669. That's 8 tracks mono with 11kHz max. On a 386/25. And it rocked.

arr.. xmplay can't play compressed mods.. :bang:
i spent hours putting 75% of my mods into RAR archives since modplug can read them and they are less than half the size when compressed...

Grab this plugin and extract it into the XMPlay directory:

OMG! thanks! lol..
i agree xmplay is more accurate.. i notice a few things so far - but i think it's lacking modplug's 'high quality resampling' option which gets rid of these crackly noises probly made by the 8-bit samples..

nowadays madtracker can actually be rewired into cubase, so you can have any VST effects over any channels .. that's crazy!! well it's totally useless to me now, but like 4 years ago when madtracker was my tracker of choice (after using fast tracker 1 and 2) that would have impressed me no end :)
