Is there a compressor as versitile like the dynamics processing in AA? Having that power in real-time as a VST would be awesome.

I imagine this type of thing wouldn't come cheap.

haha i guess not?

Well what's everyone's favorite compressor then? like one that has sophistocated attack/release settings like in AA?

Have not seen the one u mention, you can try these as they are pretty good
TC Native Bundle Compressor
DiscoDSP FX Bundle (Nightshine)
SX3/2 Built in Multiband Compressor

I dunno, but I've long wanted a compressor that could accept long "look ahead" settings like the one in Audition.

Do you have a link to a description of the Audiotion dynamics processor - for those who don't know the details of the features you're interested in?

The attack/release settings you're referring to come individually on both the Detector AND Output section - I've not seen this in a single plugin (not that it doesn't exist). It's kind of like glueing a compressor and a mastering limiter (or maximizer) together.

The Audition dynamics processor also has the ability to set different slopes at various dbm levels. Elemental Neodynium, Cakewalk dynamics processor, Izotope Ozone allow this also. Audition allows the greater number of slopes while Neodynium allows individual attack/release settings at each level (upto 4 levels - zones they are called, may be set).

Audition dynamics processor has absolutely no metering of any kind and is a for real 'use your ears tool'. That was too bad for me and was too complicated since it is actually many devices in one.

Another interesting feature of Audition DP is it' ability to do 'band-limited' dynamics which means if you set a range in the lomids from 250Hz-2KHz, for example, it won;t apply dynamics to any other part of the spectrum (not counting the slope roll-off). I use Wide Boy FreEQ on cloned tracks to do band-limited dynamics - I can choose my own slopes (very steep for my tastes) that way. Voxengo Soniformer is a compressor that uses 32 stacked DP's for a lot of this type of control also.

There is no side chain in Audition DP.

So to make a chain that does what Audition DP does (I believe you would have to glue several plugins together) I would do something like this (assuming rock/pop):

1. If I want to 'enhance the natural dynamics or rhythmic groove of a track then I'd pick a compressor for the chain that allows for that type of attack and release settings. Pick a pumping, rocking compressor. Has to handle the bass extremely well.
Ex:
Kjaerhus GCO-1 --> Tbt Maximizer
Voxengo Crunchessor --> Voxengo Elephant

2. If I just want to make the overall track 'smaller' to fit into the mix but not mess with the overall natural dynamics much then I'd put a compressor in the chain that sounds natural with slower attack and release times.
Ex:
Voxengo Polysquasher --> Elephant

3. To repair or do spectral re-balancing.
Ex:
Voxengo Soniformer --> Elephant
Wide Boy FreEQ (on cloded tracks) --> Elephant

I use Kjaerhus, Tbt, T-Racks, Voxengo, Wide Boy (EQ) mainly for dynamics processing.

Just throwing out some ideas - there are hundreds of good plugins over here to choose from. Whatever suits your taste. The point is IMO you would have to create a chain to get that kind of functionality. You'll get some great metering BTW also...
