afaik Wusikstation would be open sourced so that it could be concurrently developed by multiple devs.J_Starner wrote:Could someone please clarify this for me? What will happen if it is bought by KVR members?

Well if it went open source it'd be a completely free product which would hopefully evolve and be updated by the very same people that make free plugins and soundbanks here on KvR.J_Starner wrote:Could someone please clarify this for me? What will happen if it is bought by KVR members?
So count me in damnit. I'm not at all interested in keeping it commercial, but open source? Hell yes, that'd be an awesome way of giving people a great free product and showing the power of KvR

I might go in on this too. I haven't given much to this community but its given a lot to me, and i'd like to help out both the community and William.
I do think its important that the details are established at some point though. The nature of the source license etc. There are many different licenses, and it'll need to be agreed what the deal is if people are putting money in.

how about GPL? i'm not sure how well this would mix with the VST SDK though...quincy wrote:I might go in on this too. I haven't given much to this community but its given a lot to me, and i'd like to help out both the community and William.

Hopefully this would help those involved with commmercial soundsets/wusikengine products. It would be an interesting situation free vsti with free and commercial soundsets.

Perhaps a GNU licence I think?
I've thought about it and I think this the best way for WK to get out of this - the only future for Wusikstation is via this route - WK can recharge himself and start again afresh

Forgive my ignorance but i don't know much about GPL, apart from that its a very popular license for open source stuff.jtxx000 wrote:how about GPL? i'm not sure how well this would mix with the VST SDK though...quincy wrote:I might go in on this too. Maybe if someone could summarise the GPL license in realtively easy terms so that most of us could understand it. I'm gonna look into it whan i get a minute. Won't be for a few days though, i'm absolutely snowed under with work cos its the last few weeks of my dehgree.

do you think people like computer moo-sick could be talked in to shelling out a few quid to get k-v-r station on to it's cover disk ?
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

If a copy of WS ends up on every hardrive on Earth, the amount of money you would make doing presets & soundsets would be staggering.Kriminal wrote:So, how do we all make a profit from this?

I'm only guessing but i don't believe that these sorts of mags have a lot of money to throw about, and certainly not enough that hundreds of us here would make anything worthwhile out of it.ericj23 wrote:do you think people like computer moo-sick could be talked in to shelling out a few quid to get k-v-r station on to it's cover disk ?
I'll go out on a limb here and say i don't think its likely that anyone will make any money out of this scheme. But surely just to keep this very popular and excellent product alive is worth it alone.

We do and we don't. We pay money so that the product can be free. Think of it as giving food to starving kidsKriminal wrote:So, how do we all make a profit from this?
The profit would be the continued development and new soundbanks

If this is the way William chooses, I would be interested in seeing some developers comment on what they would do if it was GPL'd.
Does anyone know of any active open source or freeware synth devs (Glen, MDA, etc..) that could comment?
