the way I use P5 is set up a couple of useful patterns and then begin the proicess of dupe, modify and reassign
if i dupe a pattern and change inversions and raise all notes an octave or a fifth i get a related high string part
if I dupe a pattern move it down an octave and snip off the upper notes I have the start of a bass pattern
and so it goes
with P5 v2 this is considerably slicker because of track layers that can hold individual patterns that get played by the same synth/device chain (or separate channels of multi-out instruments) -- so if you want to add a hi-hat pattern at various places to an ongoing drum pattern, you just add a layer and position the hihat pattern
the track layers also encourages playing in midi or audio -- with audio if you set up a loop it automatically creates a new layer on repeated playback -- with midi you have to do it manually, but it's still very slick way to layer and build parts as patterns get created an dcan be worked in the editor but recorded in the track with all the other tracks playing
I've always been a fan of the midi editing, but with this version Cakewalk has made big strides with being able to record midi (and audio) as a performance/composition host. And that doesn't even begin to touch what a skilled and prepared player can do with the Groove Matrix.

i suppose we all hav eto draw our own particular lines in the sand
but yes, it does have PDC
i'm not sure what the difference between PDC and full PDC, but let's say it has PDC

Yes, it definately has full auto PDC through the entire signal path. That is one of the first things I checked with the P5 2.0 demo. I have a couple of UAD-1 DSP cards, that require full auto PDC, for them to work without delays. They do work great, in Project 5 2.0, BTW.

Hi
Recent convert here, The work flow is AWESOME!! I wish it had Fruitys Piano roll and mixer though but it is REALLY QUICK to put a tune together in this program!

In the short time I have used vs 2 I have to say the layout is a big improvement over P5-1. I used to get very frustrated with vs 1.

none if a synth gets played via midi data from your host.Igor 4000 wrote:So then, due to this, there should be no audible delay in any plugin?
of course there is still a delay when you play on your keyboard (soundcard latency + the delays introduced by eg SIR, Spectron, etc.)

HI
Just goes to show you REALLY CAN'T please people on every front - why would you want the 'Fruity' piano-roll?
P5 has a piano roll that is certainly no less able or usable than the fruity one - on my twin monitors it is great being able to detach it and plonk it on the second screen.
For my part I can't get my head around the fx implementation - where are the per track fx sends?
Flipper.

So PDC effects synths and not fx? In other words, if I have a synth with Spectron as an insert, PDC will not get rid of the delay caused by Spectron? Sorry for being obtuse...I'm just trying to understand the process.flex42 wrote:none if a synth gets played via midi data from your host.Igor 4000 wrote:So then, due to this, there should be no audible delay in any plugin?
