Same finish as the one I owned! I love Epis - I owned a vintage Casino in the late 70s - God, I loved that guitar....S_A_P® wrote:the natural- this one is from the late 80s, and I believe is a japanese model...

yeah this epi is going to hold me over until I can afford the "end all be all guitar" I bought a 70s epi ea-255(they called it a riviera, but it wasnt really) from this guy who runs a pawn shop in billings montana. It arrived with a broken neck, I had to dispute the charge(finally got my refund for that). Since I got the refund I could finally roll that into the sheraton. I think I will put some gibson P/ups in it after a bit. Either way this guitar plays superb lo action and no fret buzzing.
Was that a kalamzoo casino you owned Mick?

Just finished my epi dot 355. (same guitar less the cosmetic updates in my opinion)I think I will put some gibson P/ups in it after a bit.
I did extensive experimentation and I personally installed many different pickups.(not an easy task)
I wanted gibson pickups but eventually I ended up using Seymour Duncan SH-2 (jazz) and SH-4 (JB).
I also ended up with a tube pre to complete the sound.

I am amazed by the results.
Amazing sound, sustain and surprising dynamic range highlighting every nuance of your playing.
Anyway, I just wanted to point out that the differences between pickups can be huge so take your time and research it carefully before buying.
If you can't experiment with actual pickups (I was lucky, had access to them and I also had the time to do it) then your next best bet is to go on-line and listen carefully to different sound samples of different pickups to see what you like.

Ya know, I'm not sure (I was about 14) but I think it was. The guy at the shop told my mother that it was a "rare guitar." It was the mid-late 70s and those guitars were (apparently) not cool at the time. I do remember it having mini pickups.S_A_P® wrote:Was that a kalamzoo casino you owned Mick?
Why the hell I ever sot rid of that guitar I'll never know.

PS - Cool page, Andrew!
In the middle of all this VST talk I sometimes forget I am a hopeless gear slut and tone maniac.

Thanks for the Page- I was leaning towards the Gibson 57 classics, but I may have to look into the SD's. I agree though about the differences between the dot and the Sheraton. The only difference really is the binding down the neck and MOP inlays, since this epi was used I got it for the price of a new DOT. The way this particular one plays is the reason I got it. it feels great...AndrewSimon wrote:Just finished my epi dot 355. Totally agree. The PodXT sounds and feels great. Also Guitar port, which has nearly the same sounds is better than Guitar Rig. What I like most in Guitar Rig is the speaker sim, simply the best out there.Lawnmower Of The Damned wrote:Ah well. I think one of the Pod's biggest problems is that a lot of people don't realize how often it's updated. Most people understand that a Pod 1 or 2 is a far cry from a Pod XT. Still, many aren't aware that the Pod XT has been completely revoiced and sounds much more like a Vetta II then it used to.
Have you played a Pod XT within the last couple of months?
The Pod XT can even be upgraded to having all 72 amp models from the Vetta II now. The last word I would use to describe my Vetta would be "mushy".
I played my Peavey XXL directly into this speaker sim.
It rocks, much better then my Palmer Sim, but 399 bucks for a speaker sim is too much. Does anybody know, if the combos can be used as a speaker sim only ?
