Wusikstation Open Source kvr buyout

Nobody needs to buy Wusik the company. All that needs to be purchased is an exclusive right to the source code - and a noncompete from Wusik. Such a transaction would not require any exchange of debts or anything other than the specific things being exchanged.
Yes, it will require lawyers to make it stick, make sure any investors arses are covered, make sure WK can't change his mind once the transaction is closed, and make sure the noncompete is actually enforceable.
Yes, it will require a good project manager to manage the code.
Yes, that code has some very poor design elements. However, I would caution against reading too much into it without seeing the overall architecture of the program. Remember, it is quite common in DSP programming to do quite ugly things in order to achieve certain optimizations. Dunno if what we're seeing is optimization or laziness, maybe a little of both, I dunno.
Yes, I'd love to see an enhanced version of Crystal. However, before the dev goes adding a bunch of features to it, what I'd really like is to see it improve its stability and make it more amenable to live use. Right now I can't use Crystal live because it pops and crackles and every time I change patches it makes crazy sounds. It's a GREAT synth but needs some polish for it to be useful to me outside of very controlled situations. I'll note that WStation, for whatever code ugliness it has, is VERY stable and polished for realtime live use.
No, I'm not happy about compensating someone who has screwed his customers. In a perfect world, WK would donate the code to the public domain and help with the transition to open source. This is not a perfect world, though. *shrugs*
I also think this discussion is pointless until WK steps up and comments on it. If he's not willing to engage in such a transaction - and willing to reduce his price for the good of the community - then this is wasted energy.

I have $12K that I will invest RIGHT NOW if I could buy the technology assets of Waldorf. I'm completely serious.deastman wrote:Its a shame that no one felt inclined to show Waldorf the same measure of compassion...![]()
Lunacy... utter lunacy...
The reality is that the assets of Waldorf would likely cost at least an order of magnitude more, possibly much more than that, which puts it out of reach of mere mortals such as ourselves.
I'd invest $12K in a heartbeat if I could get exclusive rights to the source code to the PPG Wave as well as the OS code for the XT and Q ... in a heartbeat.

As my brother pointed out to me...
So who knows, maybe someone is due to wind up with the source already with no money changing hands. Then again, if WK doesn't want to want this to happen, there's no real way to make sure it does.
All speculation, of course.

Then again, this industry tends to play a bit fast and loose and does mostly "handshake deals" on the little-guy end of the scale, especially considering that due to it being internationally based any possibility of *enforcing* a contract is that much more difficult.I'd think that some of the bigger companies that William is licensing wusikengine to probably have a contract clause that state if Wusik goes under that the source code reverts to them. It's a standard clause that we write into our software procurements all the time (and have even had to enact on more than one occasion). I'm surprised nobody brought this up.

In reply to the statement,
Ciao
I believe this is what got the ball rolling:!"No one needs to buy Wusik the company."
It is clear from the above that the company is indeed up for sale at the mentioned price. However, if the KVR community is only interested in the source code of Wusikstation, then the 12,000$ US is clearly too high. On the other hand, if one does indeed buys the company, then what I said in my earlier post still stands, especially when the original announcement makes reference to "everything related to the company." This brings up the question of what kind of valuation does one put on a code of this kind that is linked to a business that is unprofitable? Of course it's a matter of what one does with the thing, its possibilities, etc. But how do you value that, and how do you know you've got what you've paid for. HOw is the KVR community going to arrive at a consensus that it is indeed a good, poor, okay, workable code? Just thoughts.Wusik Dot com for SALE !
Due to personal reasons, (that I don't want to talk about) I'm selling the Wusik Dot Com Company.
The purchase will include the following: C++ and Assembly Codes, Brand, WebSite and everything related to the company.
The company value is set to $12.000 USD or $14.000 CAD, one payment only.
Ciao

Guys, sorry to burst in, but I got some company emails wishing to purchase the code. The first one to pay the $1000 fee, gets to seal the deal. I will give 4 days to pay $5500 and another 4 days to pay another $5500. Hope that's a good term. As I see a lot of people that want to buy it, and I want to make it as fair possible. Email me to get the payment code: williamk@wusik.com

Note: There are 93 users that PreOrdered the V1.2.0/V2.0.0 of Wusikstation plus 9 WusikMOD PreOrders. The new company owner would have to deal with that, OR give me an extra $2800 USD so I can refund/payback those.

So you're saying $12,000 for the source code + another $2800!??
I'm personally not interested in purchasing your company and I think you should pay your own debts, dude. I merely want the community to purchase exclusive rights to the source code, which would then be donated to the public domain. You can pay back your debts out of the licensing fee, which seems fair enough to me.
If you can find a company willing to pay you the $12K go for it. I still think it sucks that you shafted your customers on the pre-orders.

Or the 72.000usd (or whatever) that he made on WS sales alone. Add other stuff he's sold as well (licensed out the engine, soundsets, preorders of other things than WS 1 etc).spaceman wrote:on what was the $2800 spent?

Yeah you know what I've thought about this and I say to hell with it. I'm not giving this guy any more of my hardearned dough. I cannot believe how crass a developer can be to treat their customers in this way. Quite honestly, I hope this whole thing doesn't pull a cloud over all the other small companies here on KvR (of which I am one). Most of us treat our customers with great respect and gratitude. WK is an exception.
Instead I'm going to go pick my fav freeware developers and donate them some $ instead. Hrrmmph.

Yes, I WAS your friend. I still AM your friend when I emplore you to pull yourself together before you ruin your life completely. Your decisions are those of a person who has lost all touch with reality. I *want* to believe that you are a good person, but your actions contradict this to extremes.WilliamK wrote:That's nice from you Sickle, very nice, mad man huh? How can you not see that what you are doing is just plain wrong?
