Been looking through and didn't seem to have it. But, I was listening to raw samples unmapped. Maybe it was there and I missed it. So, when they are mapped I will let you know. Not looking good though.Beardedone wrote:Hey Dave any luck finding that synclavier sound?
Alternatively, there is a library from Big Fish I think that is called Synclavier FM. I'd check to see if that has the Synclavier harmonica on it. If it does then let me know. I want it too.
I sampled a Synclav but just got the Tony Banks Genesis Home By the Sea sounds (which are in SS2 btw). My friend did a more extensive sampling of it but I am not sure if he was thinking "Lyle" when he did it.
I'd love to have an old Synclav now in my studio as art.

Thanks Dave
Good idea about the BF library. It was definitelyA synclavier FM sample that Lyle used.
I'll stay tuned!
Best,
Gordon

I'm curious what presets you used for 'Hairless Heart' and 'The Waiting Room'.Squids wrote:There's also every sound you'd need to play the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (just in case you need to).
Thanks,

Waiting Room can be done with the Arp sounds in SS2 although you have to make your own presets. Maybe Arp and EMS and this would be one of the more difficult ones to nail just right but it could be done (a fun challenge if I had some extra time). Hairless Heart is a Hammond for the arpggiated part so that isn't to tough. Add a little delay to a lighter Hammond direct sound (we sampled an L102 in there which is similar to Tony's model T from that time). Then there is of course the Mellotron violins for that part. The RMI through the phaser is a Lamb staple throughout. Check out your Vintage Combis for some instant Tony Banks sounds as well as many other fun ones.
Overall the raw materials are there to get pretty darn close to most Genesis/Tony Banks keyboard sounds. The portamento of the engine isn't just right for the Prosoloist sounds unfortunately but every sound from the Prosoloist IS sampled in there. Until someone MODELS the Prosoloist (which I personally would buy) this would be as close as you can get on that one... his main synth axe on the Lamb in addition to an Arp 2600 and Eno's EMS Synthi AKS used on Waiting Room.

Still trying without success on with Lyle's AYGWM sound. Some sound designer I am ...

I am going to have to try this in another instrument soon. I'm getting nowhere with ST2. First of all. How do you set up a pitch bend? An next how do I run that via a LFO with a variable rate? Is that not what Lyle did or have misunderstood?

Use the pitch bend controller on your MIDI keyboard? Or maybe draw it in your host? If you want to change the pitch bend range, then it's in the "synth" controls.Beardedone wrote:How do you set up a pitch bend?
Go to LFO2, and turn up "pitch" and "depth". That'll give you a nice wobble. To adjust the rate using a MIDI controller, simply assign a MIDI CC to the speed of the LFO.Beardedone wrote:An next how do I run that via a LFO with a variable rate?
Hope that helps.

Well, first you can start with a harmonica sound. Even a regular one will be pretty cool. The pitch bend range can be changed in the "Synth" button section where you have fine tuning. Bend Range. You can totally do it with ST2 and/or SS2.
I still haven't found the right Synclav sound. I hope I have it though. I have a bunch of stuff to go through.

Thanks Kim and Dave!
Pitch bend I do understand
- I wasn't being clear. It's really the wobble that I'm after. So LFO 2 pitch and depth, eh? Hmm.
Dave I appreciate you searching for the synclav sound - I thought you had the right one already that you're using with your band?

I am actually doing a cover of the tune with Danny but I think I am either going to record a real harmonica player (although since PMG just did that I may change my mind) or I will find some other cool sound. Of course, I'll share the patch with you if I derive it from ST2 or SS2.Beardedone wrote:Thanks Kim and Dave!

There are some good musicians playing on this record we're doing. I just talked to Mitchel Forman who wants to play on it and he uses ST and SS2. We're sending midi tracks for the collaboration. I am documenting how we're doing it so there's hopefully a cool story at the end.

Whoa Mitchel Forman and Danny Gottlieb! Wow! Mitchel is a super keyboard player. I remember both he and Danny were on the same gig with John MacLaughlin for a spell. This will be a trip Dave. Get it all down for sure.I am actually doing a cover of the tune with Danny but I think I am either going to record a real harmonica player (although since PMG just did that I may change my mind) or I will find some other cool sound. I got to see Danny many years back in the late eighties early nineties in Philly doing a workshop at Temple and with Mark Egan in Elements at Club Memphis. He is a super guy so approachable staying after to talk with people.
Cheers and thanks again! SS2 or ST2 I look forward to it.

Danny is probably one of the nicest people I've ever met actually. This album is eclectic. Some of the different people who will likely to play on it are Mitchell Forman, Michael Stern, Mark Egan, Jeff Berlin, Gary Sinise (yes, the actor... Danny plays with his band a lot and he wants to play bass on a track) plus some other talented players you may or may not know. I am also managing to play on it here and there too where I don't get in over my head.
I get to produce the whole thing though. I could push it and try to get more star players on it but that's not really what it is all about. These are just guys that Danny has played with over the years that would play on it because they want to. Don't ask when we'll be done. Hopefully by the end of the year.

Holy Bob Moses Squids! Mike Stern and Jeff Berlin as well. What a treat. Mike Stern's playing is like a constant voice in my head. Best wishes on that project sir!
Cheers,
