Is this a common way of producing samples? I mean: Is this possible because it's a free CD? Or could I start creating samples by recording my bongo, transforming it with non-realistic convolution impulses and start selling it?
Sample creation... sources for samples?

Just wondering... The samples that I know currently are either sampled 'real' instruments or sampled synths. But to my surprise with the new Future Music magazine came a sample CD that is created by processing softsynths (with modulation, arps, etc).

... or has that been done a thousand times already but I just never noticed it?

There's nothing wrong with sampling software synths, as far as I'm aware. Eric Persing did it extensively (along with hardware) for Distorted Reality 1 + 2. As long as the base sound is not already protected (as it would be if you were modifying commercial samples, for example), you're in the clear.

thanks for answering... Yes I understand it's not smart to sample ST2 or Wusikstation or another sample-based VSTzircon wrote:There's nothing wrong with sampling software synths, as far as I'm aware.
