Yet another reason why kvr is the way coolest

With all of the unfortunate things that have happened in KVR-land recently, I thought that it might be an opportune moment to dwell on some positive things that have happened, but which could not have happened without KVR.
Many of you know me (if you know me at all) as the guy who makes drum loops. What you may not know is that before coming to this site I hardly knew what drum loops were.
I first came here because I had heard about Tracktion on the Tape Op website and bought it. When I came to the Tracktion forum to ask a question (which was answered in about 12 seconds,BTW), I couldn't help but notice the line of thread titles on the right side of the screen.
One click later, and I was instantly a pathetic junky, doomed to check this site over and
over again. Even threads that had nothing to do with me drew me in.
And I started to feel guilty. Not because of warez (I wouldn't know where to find it if I wanted to), but because I felt like I was just taking: downloading all of these wonderful freesources and reading up on a thousand useful links, without really giving anything back to the community..
And so I threw together some drum loops, as a way of giving back to this wonderfully
useful place.
Strange to tell, they proved to be much more popular than anything else I had ever made. Pleased and quite curious, I made some more. And some more. And these latter were even more popular. So much so that I was eventually approached by developers to make loops
professionally. I have come to an agreement with one of these developers and the first c.d. has commenced development.
This is a very very good thing for my poor obscure self, whose drumming would otherwise be locked in a (mostly) moribund and depressing local music scene. Now people from 20
countries scattered throughout the world have heard me play. And I might actually make a
couple of dollars playing!!!
Without even having to break my kit down!
And no place but kvr could have made it happen.
Thanks Ben, for proving the truly wonderful and often neglected fact that order can consistently rise out of chaos, if you just let it happen.
If by some chance someone hasn't tried out any of these (totally free) drum loops of mine, they can be found here, here, here, here, and here.
And thanks again to Spe3d for the Auditorium!!!

Here? A depressing music scene? Surely you must be jesting

Unfortunately, you're right
Your story sounds a lot like mine and how I came to KVR three years ago. It's nice to have you here, John

I urge you NEVER to try having a conversation about anything on that board. I did, and it depressed me for weeks.
And it's nice to be here.
Thanks all!!!!

The term "online community" is waved around a lot by those who run forums and websites. A lot of things bearing that label don't deserve it, IMO. KVR deserves it.

Congrats, herodotus!! Thanks for the great loops and good luck in your endeavor. Yeah - this is a wonderful community - whoever you are. (And props for picking a cool pseudonym!)

Cheers Herodotus. To me it's a nice place too, because (besides many examples) people join in as you ask for some strange ideas ( he he). I can't think of another online-community that would...
(well in Germany we need now some fun after right-wing-politics will take power soon, new elections are just in about 4 months as the so-called "left" resigned. So we definitely need some fun.)

You know, it always reminds me of a William Gibson book. KVR isn't exactly like any one of the bizarre communities he has created, but if I had seen KVR in one of his books it wouldn't have seemed out of place.Meffy wrote:The term "online community" is waved around a lot by those who run forums and websites.
