What is the draw of filter-only plugs ?

I see that the two most recent news items of the day are filter-only plugs. Expensive ones, at that.
What is point-of-sale here ? If the filters are all that, why not take the last small step and make a full synth out of it ? The synth can probably be implimented such that it can be used "filter only" if desired.

Why bog down in unneccessary features if you're only after the filter? Plus, the draw is to have a filter for running lots of things, not just synth sounds, through them.
Maybe everything should be modular, I wouldn't complain if it was. But if you work exclusively in a modular host, you tend to prefer working with lots of building blocks rather than monolithic plugins.

Filters roolz, I pretty much use filters on all tracks at some point. IMO it is essential for all dance music to use filtering.
Sometimes the filters built into the synth just dont cut it...

FabFilter?
Well, that was initially a synthesizer (FabFilter One), you know...
Althought, asking me that also all the time, what the people actually do with that much standalone filters...

Yes, yes, please do. I've been impressed so far with all the plugins you've let loose so far. Don't worry so much about getting your ass kicked here, I think it would be harder to be one of the guys always getting their asses massaged.jackle&hyde wrote: It's really time to release my

Here's a good reason to release filter only plugs: no having to deal with sending midi notes to a synth used as an effect to activate the filter. Also, smaller GUIs, easier more self explanitory ways to modulate the filter (and not an osc or envelope for insance), etc.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

.. or I end up paying 99$ for volcano which I kind of love/hate right now (love the sound, hate the implementation, no midi note triggering for instance!!).
Cheers!
