Just a thought but is freeware really free? Some of the devs appreciate donations(i gotta get around to making some donations myself  ),and others use their freeware as promotion for their commercial products.
You could also look into Delta SP Version 1.62 thats a freeware sequencer. Or Linux has some full featured sequencers I think Rosegarden can host vsts now, but it takes a bit of work to set that up, havn't tried myself. But i did try a bootable cd version of Linux but didn't have a sequencer , I did get the drum machine included to work though without much hassle.

Yeah, I was originally using FL but for some reason I was drawn to buzz. I tried psycle first, but didn't like it. I think what kept me going is the hundreds of synths and samplers and tracker plugs and hundreds of effects included plus the excellent VST support w/ all of the free vsti and vst out there. I also like the modular setup opposed to FX channels and sends, way easier. The way it is set up it becomes very intuitive after you learn more about its possibilities. I have only been using it for a month. Good for most electronic music styles. That was the first time I have ever ranted like that. Check it out!

I tried that one in the past. It let's you mix down to a wav, but doesn't let you save any of your work as a "project file" or anything like that. In other words, you can't start a project in one session, shut down the computer, and then come back to it later. If you can make it from start to finish in one session, and don't need to keep anything except the final WAV recording, I suppose it has a few uses.

The free version of Tracktion was the best free sequencer package, but that was for a limited time only, and isn't available any longer.

I understand there is a free 64-bit version of Cakewalk available for download. I have no idea if it times out somtime in the future. Also, you need a 64-bit computer to take advantage of it, and those aren't free.

Does anyone here use the 64-bit Cakewalk product?

Yeah, I have Buzz. To be honest though, not a big tracker fan. I know their are those who feel all 1337 about using trackers, but they're nothing but a pain in the arse imo. Kind of like writing Csound scores, ie worse than death, lol. But some of the Buzz machines are decent, so it makes the list!

maximilians1,
Indeed, infact I donate to devs when ever I find a freebie that I think deserves it. To think of it, pretty much every freebie deserves a little, but my pockets are a little to deep these days! The guys at Bigtick, Kjaerhus, Smartelectronix all deserve to be getting decent money imo, their plugs f**king rock.

Buzz is free and great.

I think there is a free version of PRotools for teh PC if that's more your style. Although I don't know many free protools plug ins. Does the free version include a method for using free vsts?

Frieve Music Studio Producer is pretty bug-ish.

Make loops in FL studio demo and sequence them in kristal or ACID express.
You can make loops with VSTi with my little VstSeq sequencer and use kristal to add effects and mix them...
