Coverting Emax samples...?

Anyone know of a way to transfer Emax samples to either WAV or SF2, etc? And does anyone know where to get Emax sample libraries?! I came across a few while looking for Akai ones, and would like to hear some of these...

I'd really like to know too - I have a pile of old Emax II discs I'd love to be able to convert.

Not sure - I'll have to check at home over the weekend. It was all stuff I sampled myself on an Emax II and saved to disc on the Emax itself - I'm not so knowledgeable about file formats for hardward.

why ?
they probably suck since they are old and not even 16 bits
whatever they sound like you can find tons o stuff that do the same for free

Ever thought that maybe someone has upgraded to a newer sampler, and wanted to convert their treasured Emax collection to it?... I'm just asking incase there are people out there who would like to know the same and how to do it. If people 'didn't waste their time' nothing would get done...realmarco wrote:why ?

If I can add my two penneth....
Some while back, someone posted on the Akai Mailing List about a bunch of Emulator II samples he had. He had been the proud owner of one of these legendary machines and thankfully had "sampled the samples" before the ageing beast gave up the ghost. I contacted this gentleman and asked him if he would be willing to donate these samples to be made public. I approached my friend Steve at Hollow Sun and asked him if he would be interested in these for the HS site. He agreed and I arranged the transfer of the samples to him, which he then proceeded to convert and then post on the HS site.
These samples were top quality, albeit that they were of an old 8 bit machine, but nevertheless, these sounds had a character all their own, the likes of which probably couldn't be replicated on todays clinically clean "high end" processors.
My point is that with these samples of "old" machines, it's not a case of it being "easier" to recreate these sounds in todays bloatware, because you cannot recreate the essence and character of these things.
So, these Emax II samples would be most interesting to hear. I have to admit, being the age I am, I remember the original Emulators and Fairlights and possibly have an unhealthy obsession with them, but I love the character of some of these old sounds, much like many like the character of an old car, or old record or whatever. It's something that cannot be recreated. So when people say "why bother coz they'd probably sound like sh1t", it infuriates me, as these are probably people who go out and buy the soft synths that emulates the stuff of old. There's a huge market out there for "vintage" stuff, and there is good reason.....you simply can't beat the classics
As for conversion, I would imagine the only way to convert them would be to find an Emax II or an Emu product that can load and convert them, then use the internal export functions to get them into something like Akai format, which is much easier to convert into todays newer formats.
The other way would be to find an Emax II and then sample each patch to audio, and then create new formats from that source material. I will ask around my contacts and see if I can find out anymore.
