Want to send CD input through DX plugin...

I want to be able to pop audio CDs into my computer, and take snapshots of the FFT spectrum as the music plays. I think this would be quite instructive, just to see what professional recordings look like (I know it shouldn't be relied upon too heavily, though). Any thoughts on an easy way to do this?
I have iZotope Ozone, and it has a nice snapshot feature, so I really want to use this - I have the DX version. Also I'm using FL Studio with kX drivers. So I can imagine at least two ways of doing this:
1. Find some way to setup the kX routing so live CD input can be sent into an ASIO input which I can bring into the FL mixer (unfortunately, the ASIO recording only works at 48 kHz, so this might be a problem). I could then use Ozone within FL.
2. Find another audio application that easily plays CDs and can host the Ozone DX plugin.
Or is there another option? I'm looking for a simple way to do this that doesn't involve first ripping the audio to my hard drive, and which also doesn't require me to buy anything new. Any advice would be appreciated.
In the worst case scenario, I could use an external CD player, and send its (analog) audio into the line in on my soundcard...but I'd like to avoid this!

Have you thought about Izotope Ozone for Winamp? I use it for this and it works great!
Or, you can use the DX version of Ozone in Winamp by using VB:FFX4 Winamp host plugin. It is free and hosts four different DX FX in Winamp (the 6 unit host cost money)

Yeah, I use VB-FFX4 and a VST adaptor to run my MP3's through the Classic Series plugs when I'm listening on my headphones to get the optimal bass response. You could certainly do the same with Ozone, and it has a DX version anyway.
Why don't you want to rip to your hard drive though?
By the way, the first option should work as well. I've done something similar myself, but I don't remember the details of how to set it up. It's more work than just using Winamp though, so I don't recommend it unless you have no alternative (which is the case if you want to run plugins on, say, RealMedia streams).

Thanks for the replies, xander and warmonger!
The reason I don't want to rip to my hard drive is just out of convenience and speed - it would be nice to pop in a CD and check out its spectrum, and be able to keep changing the CD to check out different songs. Perhaps I'll check out the VB-FFX4 you guys mentioned - I don't have Winamp, so I'll have to install that too...
Thanks for the ideas. I have the DX version of Ozone - I wonder if the Winamp version is available free for a DX user...I'll see...

mDAE CD Player - VST that plays CD's via digital extraction straight to your host
mda CD Player - VST that plays your CD's normally - i.e. no output to host
Unfortunately they both only work with your default cd drive if you have more than one.
Also, by default, in the kx dsp, 'Windows' sounds are routed to FX0/1 - in the dsp window, you can route this to a spare ASIO channel, and then route this into FL for recording / processing etc.
P.S. Don't for get to check out SynthX for the kx drivers:

I've got this routed back to FL, and it sounds sweet - uses virtually none of your processor.
Just noticed another kx synth:

Not tried it yet, but it looks promising.

I've googled these to no avail.speccyteccy wrote:mDAE CD Player - VST that plays CD's via digital extraction straight to your host

Where can I find them?

Thanks speccyteccy! I guess that wasn't so hard after all - I just connected the Wave0/1 to the ASIO 0/1 input! Had to mute the audio in FL after passing it through Ozone...I forgot about feedback...woops. Anyway, this works great!speccyteccy wrote:mDAE CD Player - VST that plays CD's via digital extraction straight to your host

the mda plugs you mentioned I think I tried before but didn't get them to work - but I think I never did find the first one you mentioned which brings the audio into the host app.
And thanks for the tips on the kX synths, but I think I'll skip them because VSTis are so much easier, and I got about a billion VSTis.
Thanks again!
EDIT: Oh, and thanks again to warmonger and xander - I think I'll pass on Winamp because this is working for me. But thanks for the ideas.

If you insert a mixer into the kx dsp, you can mute Window's sounds when you're monitoring them via ASION in FL.grease wrote:Thanks speccyteccy! But not that run on your soundcard! Seriously, you can control them via MIDI Out, and route the audio back to FL. (Useful to me until I can upgrade my 1.2Ghz Athlon.grease wrote:And thanks for the tips on the kX synths, but I think I'll skip them because VSTis are so much easier, and I got about a billion VSTis.
