Is a soundfont "geared towards hip hop" needed?

I think I have my head around enough tweaking to come up with sounds particulatly vital to hip hop. Leads, and of course (though way overdone but still) a few 808 sets and Vinyl drum kits, and key synth sounds and basses. Is it worth even putting together? I'm thinking of putting together a pretty extensive soundfont for it.

Most people over here H.A.T.E. every kind of hip hop.
They aren't evil, but they are too old for it.
And hiphop is made by sampling old records. If you don't work records-only, it's just too easy and cheesy,

I'd be down for some vinyl kits. Don't really need anything else for sounds personally.

I know, most of the vinyl kits will be samples. But i'm not intending for them to be your typical leads and all. I know the 808 is done and I myself wouldn't even use it, but it is hip hop and it is hot right now so why not. And I also know about people around here, us hip hop heads are a remnant at KVR, when most people thing of hip hop now they think of lil john or some stupid shit. I just want to look out for those of us here who are hip hop heads and aren't using cheesy whine leads and 808. I just wanna be diverse though. Thanks for the input. My friend's father was a dj back in the 80s and 70s and literally has shelves of Vinyls not to mention A Reel to Reel hooked up with his computer and a mix and all. So we are gonna do that, and for free:-D however if this vinyl drum library becomes extensive then we might ask for donations or a small fee. But the library will be huge. And no more than $10. thanks for the feedback!

Oh by the way, I would love to sample riffs and stuff of straight vinyl, but I don't know about the legalities involved. If it is possible then I will. I can get plenty of orchestral vinyl and get hits and everything as well. So look out

It might already exist, although it's very early 90's hiphop: Visit www.hammersound.net, and search for the "DJ Tools" soundfont set (vol.1 & 2)
It will be great, seriously! Every now an then there are wannabe hiphop "producers" asking for VSTi's to use. If you make this soundfont, we can redirect 'em to you and SFZ. And maybe they wanna pay you a little bit for sharing the sounds...

I know, but I have hundreds of Vinyls to work with. I want this to really blow stuff away. The thing is, I sort of want this to be like a free replacement for Stylus, I know it is a brilliant VST, but not everyone has so much money.

Yeah, there aren't many real hip-hop producers. Hell, I'm more a downbeat/trip-hop producer myself. I think a lot of people confuse what's on the radio with what real hip-hop is. If it's on a top 40 radio station, it's pop music. It's not real hip-hop. These top 40 "hits" as it were give the whole scene a bad name. That's not music, that's a marketing formula.
People that are doing it like they should, the people on DefJux and Anticon; people like Madlib and Doom. That's more the real deal.

Those people are creative themselves, and don't need any "hiphop" instruments since they use whatever they can get thei hands on.
It's only the wanna-bees that need to be serviced imho.

J_Starner, that sounds righteous! A collection of sampled vinyl hits would be a real treasure.
xoxos, I can think of some people who might use that right away: very cool idea. (I would have said me, but didn't want to give the impression I had any skills meself). It would make for some killer freestyle comps.

Yea this will all be free, I mean I would put up a thing for donation if the library gets very huge, but no one has to pay. And don't worry I don't plan to take over the world or anything, I don't even have a job
Need one soon though. But anyways, The vinyl kits wouldn't just be limited to hip hop of course, use it all on whatever you want. It won't be a bunch of high pass leads and 808 drums so don't become irrationally frightened just yet
I'd much rather see the music grow than my dollars grow from this project, whether you believe me or not.

I'm totally down with this. Good samples is good samples, and you don't have to necessarily use them for hip-hop.

it's sort of a 'practical' application of the original a.t. concept for decentralist purpose.. trouble atm is i'm about to move my 'office' around th house for the 2nd time this week tryin to find a spot cool enuff to where the mouse doesn't get gummy. nobody's been fond of my nocturnal idea. production impediment (until my ethics tips the a.c.)ouroboros wrote: xoxos, I can think of some people who might use that right away: very cool idea.
