I expect a wall of rolleyes on this, but anyone feel guilty about using impulses taken from equipment that's still on the market (that you also don't happen to own, like a TC 'verb, for instance)?

Anyone feel "ethically challenged" by this practice at all?

Dave

No.

not really... IMO it's kind of like when a dev releases a synth demo where you can't modify presets and can only use the presets given...

Right up there with taking pictures of famous landmarks. If the impulse stole the soul out of the machine and all its tweakability that would be another matter.
perception: the stuff reality is made of.

nah, I dont think that convolution is *that* goodI think that the only benefit is that it allows 1 plug in to approximate many others...

Thanks for the rolleyes. :D That was more than even I had dared to hope for.

Although I take issue with your analogy, since landmarks aren't mass produced products that are intended for sale.

To me, it's not that far removed from sampling a piece of music and using it in another song (a la past greats like MC Hammer).

Hey, I'm not accusing, since, as we speak I have effects chains that include impulses of Eden and Jensen speakers, not to mention whatever they were mic'ed with.

I suppose this is a debate for all of those who lost sleep worrying about the moral outrage of Napster. :hihi:

Still, I wonder if TC, Lexicon, etc., are preparing strategies for future litigation. :-o

Doesn't bother me any. I have an intuitive distinction (but not a rational one) between:

a) Selling a recording made using sampled IRs in an impulse reverb (okay)
b) Selling the impulses, or an impulse reverb plugin with the impulses bundled (seems more sketchy to me, don't know why)

Don't do it my way.

No I don't.

I do feel guilty when I pay several hundred dollars to a company that pays its employees .13 cents an hour in China. It's one of the reasons I switched to software.

Though, one could stick with synthetic impulses.

It's kinda like using another artists name for the method/ technique he used to create loops/ ambient spaces--As your own screen-name.. :x

My God, you're right!!!!!!

Though, I'm really focusing on "current, off the shelf" products. God knows, Frippertronics lasted about as long as the Macarena and had the popular response of your average croquet tournament. :hihi:

Plus, I'm going to play the Vanilla Ice card here (vis a vis his use of the Under Pressure riff, which he supposedly added an extra beat to at the end, thus making it "original" ). Note: I spell mine with an "x" at the end. :D

Of course my OWN handle is exempt from this line of logic As clearly, I "have it" whereas Satie did not :hihi:
