Hey, I'm looking for a decent freeware filter....one with a high enough resolution on the cutoff knob. Most filters I have "stairstep" really bad when you modulate it and I need something much smoother! I would kill for a damn moogerfooger!!!

A high resolution filter.

Your gonna have to pay.

I've tried Beta Bugs Crayon Filter but its a bit harsh.

Try PSP Nitro!

Free and $250 aren't exactly the same thing.... :?

There's a list of filters, and their price in the instruments section of KVR, best to check them out for yourself and see, which one you can live with.

If you want Excellent quality, you've got to pay for it.

I'll recommend you NWRCFil, i think it's the best sounding one right now. I used to love Zapfilter, because the dirtyness, and the features, but it's not as good as NWRCFil, when it comes to the sound.

Try Kjaerhus Classic Auto Filter. Doesn't step, and sounds great.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

There's also OMG! which is a great one that comes free with CM.

When you're ready to spend money theres tons of good stuff like FabFilter Volcano, and Quad Frohmage, and others.

The Classic Autofilter does step unfortunately. It still sounds good though.

I'd strongly recommend picking up a copy of computer music magazine. The CD contains a copy of "ohmygod," a freebie from ohmforce (you get it with CM, or free with any ohm bundle). It has a LP filter that's basically the same as one from quadfromage, their filterbank product, amoung other things. It has an excellent sounding adjustable saturation algorithm as well. It's one of the best sounding filters out there period.

I've used Classic Autofilter before and I thought it sounded like ass!!! I'll try again though.
Same for OMG......thought it was embarrassingly terrible. Being poor sucks.

No, it's actually quite good like all the OhmForce Filters.

have to try it out again,i never really gave it a chance...thought it made some pretty good sounds for industrial or noise. I'll try bypassing all the other crap and just use the filter...

I didn't like the OhmForce Filters. I preferred PSP Nitro. I also have Filterscape, which is a great value. Volcano looks great, but I don't need it right now. Tempting.
For free, try http://www.devine-machine.com/minion/
Interesting LFO GUI.
