Allow you to save a file at 12 or even 8-bit? I got a little plan but I want to see if this is possible first. Anyone know if there is or if it is even possible at all?

Sound Forge lets you go down to 8-bit, but only works in increments of 8.

Yep, it's possible. Most editors support 8 bit as part of the standard WAV format and I think Awave can handle 12 bit, not 100% sure though.

Thanks.

You're describing an effect called "bitcrushing"...

I know, but I was going to try and experiment with something. A bit crusher was involved too though.

Sound engine free is another editor worth looking into.
You can output to 8bit,and change te sampling rate.
Sound engine like Audacity has a nice selection of built in effects.

Oh here's a link to SoundEngine.http://www.cycleof5th.com/

Tell me. Why do you want to do this? I know of a bitcrushing plug in Dr008 that just destroys sound quality and I never could see the point of using. What benefit can be gained by decreasing bit depth?

Not familiar with those but still don't see why degrading audio quality is desirable. :?
