Just finally got the CM 86 issue today as well. Looking forward to hearing the CM Session samples and trying the PS-1 demo.

I religiuosly hunt down each issue of CM....and there's always so few copies and they always show up late....but it's worth it just for the knowledge I've gained from their articles and tutorials.The samples are cool but every now and then they give away a real gem...and CM Sessions is one of the best!Thanks Scot and CM!!

Anybody know where I can get the mag here in the States? I don't want to sign up for a membership. I just want to buy one issue when I can. Anybody know which stores you can pick it up at?

I tend to get lucky at Barnes and Noble. Note that it is not found in the Music section of my store, but with Computer Arts in the Computers section

I used to buy CM but haven't for a while. Could someone please give me a run down on what CM Session is exactly. It may just be worth tracking down a copy. Thanks.

I've had luck with barnes&Nobles, Borders, and Tower Records.

It's not a drum synth, you load samples into each pad. If I were to compare this plugin to anything (after spending a little time with it), it would be to Ableton Live's Impulse instrument, as it allows you alter various attributes with each sample, including granular stuff.

It's a rompler basically that Scot Solida did for CM, using NI's Kompakt Player (which means C/R protection). See the previous page for other people's breakdown of what's in it.

To be honest, I deleted it off my HD after a few days; the sound quality is good and what is there is fine, but for a 1.5gb soundset, there really isn't enough. When you consider that the total cobined size of the Wusikstation, TSW and VOXd soundsets come in at around the same size and how many presets you get with those, the lack of flexibility and function of CM Session becomes more apparent. CM would have been better licensing the WS engine and using that for CM Session plugin, as at least it would have given the end user the chance to make their own presets and use all the sample content further.

I've always been able to pick one up at either Fry's Electronics or Hasting Records. They even carry SOS and Terrorizer at both places, which I usually pick up also.

For some reason, this particular issue has been nearly impossible to find here in the States. The Virgin Megastore that usually carries it 2 weeks before anybody else actually had the magazine, but without the DVD. The other places that usually stock it didn't have it at all...what gives?

First, I loathe challenge-response copy protection - particularly on freebies (look at the people that can't get ST1Free authorized now?) I'm sure Scot's work is grade A, but IMHO the baggage isn't worth it. I'd say the same thing if they'd licensed the ST2LE engine.

Having said that, I understand CM's reasoning behind choosing Kompakt ... it's cross-platform (Wusik isn't, Eve isn't, and there's no cross-platform player for sfz that I know of). I assume they also wanted to do something more involved than DS-404 (CM's "native" format) was capable of.

I usually find CM at Media Play, Borders, and Books a Million. But no luck on this particular issue yet.

and only at one of the two Barnes & Noble in the area.
but well, that's par for Birmingham.

I think it really depends from store to store. I think I should just pick one and demand they have it every month...or just suck it up and pay the subscription...it would probably be cheaper than the $13-$15 and issue I'm paying at the stores!
