No, in that case you're compromising the amount of sounds. Unless you want to reduce sample rate and bit depth of coursezircon wrote:If we're talking about squeezing multiple specialized libraries such as SoV, VoTA, RI, SD, etc. into one DVD, you are compromising sound quality and that's really all there is to it.
The market of sample libraries - what is most wanted?

I'm always after the type of sounds that i cant simply record here. Orchestral instruments, live drums and percussion etc. Obviously quality is a real factor. Also, Id like to see more abstact instruments - things like waterphones, spring drums etc. Something that I can go to work on and turn into something really special.
Libraries I use all the time:
Symphony of Voices
Voices of Native America
VSL Horizons - Stones and Glass
Vocal Planet
Anything along these lines would do me just fine. Im sick of programmed loops and sounds - I can ake those here! I can necessarily go into a top studio and record mad fx sounds using a full orchestra though - these are what I'll get the Visa card out for
Unfortunately they're also the most demanding from a development point of view. But, Im sure if you invested and produced a truely remarkable set of sounds with quality to match, then it'd be worth its weight in gold.

I voted vocals/world, but to be honest, almost every good new sample/soundset is inspiring, whether it's the next spanish guitar, a new sitar, or a chinese oboe
. And sometimes I just tend to overdo it: Sitar + Accordion + Darabouka + *.*
ESC not good enough? Or not ST2 enough? Maybe Chickensys?Meffy wrote:Herman Witkam is doing fantastic work in this area, and I MUST get a good translator to do Giga -> SampleTank2 so I can use his samples!

Interesting.. I didn't expect the ethnic category to be so popular with the release of QL RA.

Ha! "Huge profits"? If only!original flipper wrote:Of course this would compromise the huge profits that the single sample CD generates so I don't suposse we will see to many MEGA DVD libraries coming from the likes of Time&Space or if we do they will want several hundered $/£.
And if only people would realise how time consuming and costly it is to create professional sound library - months of work acquiring the samples (and the expense required to do that) then months of staring at screens editing, trimming, looping and otherwise optimising (often) thousands of samples then months of programming work. Then you have to create the artwork and packaging and the advertising and promotion (a single ad in something like Sound On Sound can cost thousands of pounds), etc., etc., etc.. Involved in all of this are usually several highly experienced sound recordists, engineers, programmers not to mention sales people, graphic designers, etc., and they all have to be paid (very often, they have to work for little - or nothing - and only get their return when/if the product actually starts selling!). It is not impossible for a developer to sink several hundred thousand $$$s into a library and you think it's expensive!
Ok... you see something selling for $150 or whatever but a blank CD only costs a few bucks so your perception is that the greedy developer is making $149 pure profit. No! That's the RRP (which will inevitably get discounted) - the price the developer gets is likely to be half that. By the time the development expenses are taken out and the country's income tax is deducted; by the time the developer's premises' rent/rates are paid, the staff have been paid, etc., etc., the developer can be lucky if he even breaks even!! THAT is the reality. "Huge profits" my arse!
If you find sound library that has been meticulously prepared for you by seasoned and experienced professionals too expensive and can't afford it then perhaps I might suggest that you are indulging in a hobby you can't afford!

I just saw a post and it reminded me of the answer: "Back Up Singers!" is the answer. They should do oohs, ohs and aahs that work in in Rock/MoTown/R&B.
No need to thank me.
