MrM,
The music box was not made in the US (where 440 tuning is the standard) it was made overseas and the European orchestral standard tuning is 443 Hz - so that would make sense yes.

I have just finished converting these for Akai S5/6000 16 bit format and Akai Z Series 24 bit format. Just a bit of final testing and I will send these over to you Francis/Alan
Tell me, as I do not have Kontakt, did you have the samples play full length (one shot) for each keystroke and leave in the backgound "click" that appears at the end of some of the samples ? I have done this with my Akai versions for an authentic feel.
Regards,
Roberto.

Lovesign,
Yes I programmed all samples as one shots - though I adjusted the sample end times on some of them to cut off that click.

In that case, it must be an old box; nowadays we use 440 Hz as well.Alan Lastufka wrote:MrM,

But perhaps they tuned it sharp on purpose; most instruments sounds more happy when tuned a bit sharp.

Thankyou for this.
Your Music Box sounds exactly like the instument that played the music when Mr.Rogers took us into the "Land of Make Believe"

It would have been cool to have him visit your studio on one of his field trips to show kids how music and samples are made.
Mr. Rogers subliminaly planted jazz into the brains of all kids who watched his show. I think this is what happened to Beardedone.
Thanks again.

Alan, I've made a SF2 (soundfont) out of the 24 bit samples.
What I did is:
- convert the 24 bit samples to 16 bit (otherwise vienna couldn't import them)
- boosted all samples with 10 dB (I don't pound the keys, and made this one for private use)
- finetuned each sample in cents, so that all samples are perfectly in tune, (up to 1 cent) at 440 Hz concert pitch
- covered area is 2 octaves, from D5 to D7
If you want me to send it to you (Bela D Media that is), I would be happy to do so. Otherwise this will stay private!
