Webspace needed for samples

Hi All

I am trying to find the best webspace for hosting samples.

Free webspace would be nice otherwise i dont mind paying a fee but i want an anonymous webspace provider - i.e so you cant just do a whois lookup and find the address and name of the person who registered the name!

Any ideas on this?

Just got a free 50megs.com account, not sure if that will be ok

I see samples are popular these days.

Would it be worth creating another sample site or are there too many these days?

It would be mainly electronic loops, pads, single shot basses etc all of which i will create on my own with my own hardware so no copyright implications would apply!

I would get the big package if its worth doing and i have good webediting skills )

Any votes for this?

You would need some way to generate a revenue stream from it – if popular 40 gigs of bandwidth would be used up in a matter of hours –seriously.

You would then need to be in a position to get a custom package (if AudioShots) – that’s if you want good, continued and fast bandwidth (the account would hibenate at 40 gigs if that was the package you were on)(media files and fast bandwidth, thats what audioshots is set up for) – or get one of the super cheap bandwidth heavy packages from another hosting company – but you would need to be sure they are happy about bandwidth drains, check their connections and their policy on media files, so they don’t cut your account.

Samples are popular, but providing free content is going to kill your project off before it gets anywhere imo – unless you got breaks in place - or the samples were real small – or just plain crap quality.

Whatever you end up doing (if going ahead after reading this and not using audioshot’s’) make sure your host has put a break on your bandwidth limit – ie don’t get hosting with an open ticket where you pay for bandwidth excess over that limit per month, get a package that shuts down automatically so that you can work out where the bandwidth is getting used up – you only need a big file to be downloaded more than expected for a nasty surprise.

Then ask yourself - what and how will my site differ from all of these, how will your samples be presented? what will the draw be to eventually stand out in such a list? What will keep artists comming back rather than just visit once, download everything and then bugger off?

I own audioshot’s’ – as far as sub domains go they work from whatever domain name you register with your domain name provider – be it from the special link for domain names at audioshots, or from your own registrar – all the cpanel packages I do need a top level domain to be set up – they cannot be set up with a sub domain alone. Once you have the top level domain set in cpanel – you can then create a sub domain to run under it – it would only be anonymous if you guarded the domain name – but I think all domain names are exposable one way or another – just to be sure there is no real anonymity on the net with domain names – even if you entered false info - though some think use of a sub domain will cover them - I used sub domains for the freeshots and clearshots accounts - I no longer issue these accounts due to this exact problem of guys abusing the sub domain name - its complex - I dont feel comfortable with your requests to be honest.

When you purchase a top level domain name .com .net etc. you normally have the option to select whois guard for an extra fee to protect against easy identification from the domain name databases – for sure any confidential info sent to me is kept as such regarding your real name and address – I don’t let anyone on the servers without knowing who they are for sure – you would need to let me know the domain name you have selected and who you are after purchasing any of the packages.
