Hi all,

Can someone recommend some software for importing wav files into a digital music library and adding ID3 tags and all that? Other than iTunes.

I've decided that hard drive space is cheap enough to keep a music library of wav files from my cd collection. I'm tired of dealing with proprietary file formats (AAC, WMP, etc.). I'd like to keep a library of wav files and a library of mp3 files, converted from the wav files.

I use iTunes to sync with an ipod, and it doesn't seem like you can maintain more than one folder as a music library. So I was thinking about using some other kind of software for keeping track of the wav files, and using iTunes just for transferring select mp3 files to the ipod.

I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Use Lame for converting WAV to MP3. You can find it at http://sourceforge.net/projects/lame

Also at sourceforge.net you can find more than a handful of tools that can deal with the tagging.

Thanks C00kie. The more I think about it, the more that sounds like a great idea. That way I can keep the two libraries separate.

As for keeping the wav library, I've thought about Windows Media Player 10 or MusicMatch Jukebox 10. If anyone has any input on the choice between these two, I'd love to hear it.

Ive used both extensively. Personally i like the GUI and organization of MusicMatch. They both have basically the same features. But in the end I use Window Media player. I use it for its album art..as well as one multi purpose internet media player. WMP has more support and plugins, skins etc you can get. Also with a dvd encoder you can watch dvd's on wmp...all in all its a more flexible application.

I do not know if this is what you're looking for but MPEG Audio Collection is pretty cool and useful.
