Please forgive my idiocy, as I am relatively new to all this. What is crunk?

If nothing else, then this thread could be a great opportunity for you long-standing KVRers to have a good old laugh at a newbie

I feel this knowledge will enhance my KVR experience no end. I eagerly (or should that be gingerly?) await a response.

You should be proud you don't know yet. Alas, innocence is at an end for one more... *sigh*

This is a dictionary made by contributors and edited, near as I can tell, by nobody -- so don't take any single post's word for it. :-D

Champion. I'm none the wiser though, seeing as I heard it in the same breath as "tarnce" once.

What an education...

Ohhh, that's curnk. *nodnod* Totally different, except it's the same. I guess. I avoid both and listen to nothing but vocoded Sacred Harp tradition, or sometimes old sound effects LPs for a change. :-)

Aren't there some audio samples on urbandictionary.com? I didn't try 'em, assumed they're examples.

[edit] Rats, they're speech samples -- people saying "crunk". What a bitter disappointment! I shall hie me to a kitchen for a snack.

against my better judgement, I will answer this question for you. First of all Crunk is used to describe a popular form of hip-hop music originating in the "Dirty South".(Atlanta,Houston, New Orleans,The Carolinas,St.Louis) The music is made popular by producers and artists such as Lil Jon and the Eastside Boyz, Jazzy Pha, The Ying Yang Twins, Ludacris, Ciara, Petey Pablo, David Banner etc.. The music is mainly Bass heavy with multiple synth lines. Not much lyrical content, usually a catchy hook or chorus and that's about it. Primary goal is to create club music that's fun to dance to. Many think the term crunk is a combination of the words Crazy and drunk. Can also be used to describe the feeling one has while partying incessantly. Let's get Crunk!!! Would be an example of proper use. Most here don't listen to hip-hop so will have very little or derogatory comments. Take a listen to some of the people up avove and make up your own mind.

Caleb, it also says this about me (among a number of utterly false derogations):
9. Meff
a goddess

Person 1: Hey where's Zeus?
Person 2: With Meff, the goddess.

Crunk is unfortunately a plague on our society, set to make urban youths believe that the path to happyness lies in 22" rims, platinum and diamond encrusted teeth, and chanting 3 little words "WHAT, YEAH and OK". Unfortunately, these same urban youths do not realize that the myth is being laid out by a filthy rich white CEO who reports to stockholders. This Guy tells his underlings to find more acts that play to the lowest common denominator of our society, and play on stereotypes. Therefore if an artist wants to fit in, they must adopt these stereotypes and play ball. Crunk is one of those things that will implode under its own weight. Anyway we can hope. I just cant wait for the day that hip hop artists can make music without the fear that they must conform to the bollocks that is popular today and still prosper. that goes the same for any music.
