...with different miking combinations & techniques. I'm completely new to this, so I was hoping that someone could tell me what the optimal test signal would be. Sine sweep?

Post

The most straightforward signal to create an impulse response with is a minimal impulse - a single full-scale +1.0 sample surrounded by an infinite number of zeros on either side. If you use a swept-sine or other signal, you have to do more work to convert the output to an impulse response.

Don't do it my way.

I was thinking about using Voxengo Deconvolver if that makes a difference.

yes use Voxengo Deconvolver! a 48 sec. Sine sweep is what you need dont clip the Sine sweep. i would like to try those cabs could you send them to me

You're not gonna be able to make an impulse response of a cab from one of those!! While theoretically any linear system can be captured using a delta function (impulse), only pure digital systems are THAT linear. A speaker cab will barely respond to an impulse. Some kind of sine sweep is what you need.
