No. That wouldn't work for some obvious reasons.
You need a harmonizer, which is able to work with all kind of material (not a specialized voice harmonizer, which is definately intented to work with monophonic voices at dominant fundamental frequency - like human voices or solistic instruments).

Are you thinking of harmonic distortion, maybe? You can really liven up drums with some analog-style distortion. TbT Audio plugins are great, so is UKM Nonlin, and Voxengo is all about the analog.

As for Bowie...if you're thinking of what I think you mean, those are electronic drum synths. Check out some of these to get that 70's "Djeeeooo" drum sound.

That'll do it...cool plug - no demo? I guess it's too new.

It looks like a delay based pitch shifter (kinda granular). Meight be usefull for drums (but probably convolutes the transients very much).

Bad, if there is no demo available...

In the meantime you could try that one (VST PC):
J&H AudioPitch
It's free and small. You wouldn't loose anything. Except earn a little disappointment, if it dosn't work for you.

I wonder what they used for that sound. Tony Visconti was somehow triggering something with the drums that would drop in pitch. I thought it was a drum synth, but it might be a trigger of some sort...interesting. The J&H Pitch should do it, but it would have to be quick, and automated for each hit.

OK I just had some success creating the "Low" sound. I had to bring a snare into Sound Forge and use it's Pitch Envelope to blast the snare quickly from 0 to an octave below, and then I just flew it under the kit in Kontakt.

Don't know if that's what you're looking for, markroom.

There's a pitch shifter dedicated to that kind of stuff... now what was it called, Chopitch or something. Great with any percussive material and does wonders in realtime (because of its realtime nature, it only shifts the pitch down... but check out the demo and enjoy what it does).

Discord sounds nice btw. They should really come up with a demo soon.

kule stuff thanx for that i just download audio pitch and the demo of chopitch thanx

in answer to the low question

i heard tony v used an eventide harmonizer on random to change the tail of the snare -far as i know der is manily a real kit on the good songs

i also heard prince did this on linn drum machine on his late eighties stuff-

ive never actually used a real live eventide so i dont no for sure how dis is done i suppose u could allways do it manually in sound forge etc

i know u can do dis in fruity loops by using the pitch envelope but im really looking for modulation :)

also the problem i had wit akai decca buddy was dat it had no random/automation/lfo type stuff -i was able to get sum alright sounds but i want random stuff

thanx again

 :) :) :) :D

Tony Visconti wrote:If you're talking about the snare on Low, Heroes or The Lodger -- that was a trick with the Eventide Harmonizer. I sent the snare to the Harmonizer and dropped the pitch and a fed it back. The trick was: I did this live, so the drummer (Dennis Davis) heard the effect as he played and played accordingly to what he heard. If you just add this on the mix it is a different sound.

yep i tried those plugs and there both cool

chopitch is automated and preety easy to get good sounds from

audiopitch is like an audio pitch bender .Its modulation type pitch so its still in time which is pretty groovy .It can be controlled via midi also. i think i will just use this in cubase and trigger it
with the pitch bender on my synth
-dat should do the trick

thats interesting about Tony v using the eventide live during recording i never heard dat befor kule kule-

Yes Yes i really think dat using harmonizers on drums is a great way to overcome a flat sound. this i think is very relevent to computer music
8)

a lot of effects dat i assumed were done with short delays i think must have been done with harmonizers

i think im gonna just buy discord- i cant find it anywhere else and its cheap.- which would make it the first plug i ever bought! -dat is unless sumbody buys it for me- dum di dum

anyhoo thanx again guys dat was a real help if i find any others i'll post sum links in here 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Discord is excellent, and based on the Eventide in question (which was delay-based, too).

It is getting a new GUI + some new features soon:
