If it sounds good it is good.

You would only really need to do that in a sequencer if the original colour scheme really sucks

Post

damn, I had promised to upgrade my sequencers every other, but I need those damn device groups, assuming its what I think it is. (Like P5 v2)
If it sounds good it is good.

Are you kidding?!

Read again the section on how the freeze is being implemented  - you can freeze a channel full of clips and still launch the individual (rendered-in the background) clips.

I can't think of any other host that allows you to do anything like that!! This makes the freeze feature in *some* sequencers look truly pathetic by comparisson!! :D
Freeze alone would mean that Live 5 could have far less upgrades than Live 4. And it won't be a CPU hog at all.

Am I wrong? 8)

I understand you, man! This is all I could get hold on so far:

Ableton is proud to announce the release of Live 5, the team's biggest development effort since the initial release of Live in 2001. The version 5 feature set extends each aspect of Live-from creation to production to performance-while making the program easier and even more fun to use.

DAW Features. Live 5 includes advanced and creative DAW features to satisfy any audio professional. Read more about clip Freeze, plug-in delay compensation, launchable Arrangement locators and Mackie Control support. Details...

Remix Features. Get ready to remix! Live 5 includes a host of new remix- minded features, assuring instant remix and mash-up gratification. MP3 support, automatic tempo-matching, Complex Warp Mode and the new clip transport make remixing a breeze. Details...

Organizational Tools. Never lose ideas again! Live 5 features simple tools for saving, previewing and accessing any idea on your hard drive. Explore the new "Live Clip" file format, better browsing, new preset management, Device Groups and the new library. Details...

Instruments and Effects. Live 5 introduces a selection of innovative new devices, bringing even more creative possibilities. Check out Beat Repeat, Phaser, Flanger, Auto Pan, Saturator, Arpeggiator and the updated Simpler. Details...

Live 5 also brings countless improvements to existing features; for instance, you can change the properties of multiple clips at once, resize and minimize the width of tracks in the Session View, use right-click context menus for most functions, use VST MIDI effects and use a count-in for recording. Version 5 is even easier to learn thanks to a new set of lessons and an improved lesson reader.

Live 5 beta testing will begin soon. The release is scheduled for late July 2005. Live 5 pricing information can be found here.

On this occasion, we would like to express our special gratitude to the Live users. Your support has allowed us to augment the development team with new talent, helping us to make Live 5 such an early reality!

.......what a f**king surprise!

its funny how impatient we've become....cakewalk copied live and implemented what was missing and what Live users asked for....lots of people jumped to P5...and it is nice.....Ableton said just be patient, and they've implemented virtually every major thing asked for except altivec optimisation and dual core support for Mac users.....in a pretty short time i might add plus gave you an essentially free instrument if you sample in operator.....i think its at the stage where we should soon be able to pick a host thats most intuitive to the individual and stick with it....without having to spend the money and time jumping between hosts on the same project....where you can work completely ( or at least learn to settle a lil in order to) in one application....my two cents.....patience,...especially as my disposable income becomes less and less.....no to mention limitations can be creative?

thanks very much for that, damn damn damn, I was just about to drop a load on project 5
didn't think I was gonna be able to hold out much longer but f**k that! I'll be on the bench til late july just as tickled pink as can be

I only see two omissions that I would find very necessary at this stage in Live and that is an built in 'slicer' and the abilty to drag and drop wav files from other applications and the desktop right into Live, or course the work around on the later is almost just as good right about now. This is looking good yes it is

f**k i've been dreaming about 'clip freeze' for forever, this shit is gonna be so fuckin dope

Damn..the site is still down... :tantrum: :bang: :box:  :help:

BTW, I play with Live 4 (demo version) for a little while. I still own Live 3. And I never upgrade past 3.04 (yet!).

And I'm still have FLS 5 as my main host. 8)

And yes, I agree with you. I have waited for a little while just to see how Ableton were going to respond to Cakewalk in what has become (IMHO) the most heated (and interesting) rivalry between 2 hosts for the "all-in-one" host title.

So far, Live 5 has the most potential. But I will check out the demo to see if it's right for me.

And I hope it is. Because I would like to have a host that can compliement FLS very well in my home studio.
