Mmm, now some serious MIDI enhancements would be good... In general, not just Live... ;-)

Thats why I will wait and see if Live 5 receives better reviews than Live 4.

I think Freeze alone would help make it CPU-friendly. 8)

yeah, its just live instrus right?
why would it be?....i didn't read that....are u gettin that jus from the pic?
They don't say it, but they are hinting strongly that it is for Live Instruments only:

"Device Groups

Device Groups allow you to save powerful multi-effect creations, effectively adding all the capabilities of Ableton's MIDI and audio effects to Simpler, Impulse and Operator presets.

Say, for example, that you have transformed a simple Simpler patch into a massive lead sound by processing it through a complex chain of Live effects. In Live 5, you can group the Simpler with the effects and save the entire group as one new Simpler preset. Recalling this preset automatically recreates the effects chain along with Simpler and the associated settings."

devils advocate though.... the Project 5 demension is still an extremely attractive proposition, and there are some esoteric features that Project 5 has over live like the ability to turn any midi file into an arp, i love features like that... if it was possible to just drag and drop everything between the two i might be still interested in
project 5, i'm not to keen on rewire i prefer them to rotate on their own axis. im envisioning a triple screen setup with FL5 on my left, Live 5 in the middle, and Project 5 on the right, Reason rewired and energy xt nestled somewhere underneath the hood, me growing a beared and hardly bathing which in turn would help get rid of the girlfriend chewing on my ear.

ok....gotcha....that wouldn't be too bright on their part....their instruments and effects are good stuff,...but c'mon they gotta know the average user uses tons of vsts....and that handcuffin that feature almost negates it....well, i would hope lol

I really hope they expand the piano roll of live a bit. It's the only thing keeping me from going for ableton's product. It's FL Studio and EnergyXT still for me (and energy XT apparently just upgraded the piano roll to be one of the best ever).

...there's still one thing I wished that would be a bit better though:
the arpeggiator.
I was wishing such an arp where you could build your own patterns. The editor would look almost exactly like the midi-clip editor. You could insert notes in it (location, length, velocity) and they wouldn't be absolute notes, but note indexes. C1 would be 1st note, C#1 would be 2nd note etc. This way you could get all the traditional arpeggiator patterns out of it very easily and you could also do such arpeggios which would have both single notes and multiple notes playing in the same arp pattern! I hope someone does an arp like that. No more need for other arps after that one...

Bit of a moot point with the Chord / Random and Scale inbuilt Midi FX + the ability in Live 5 to use 3rd party MFX in a device chain don't you think ?

yeah, that sounds exactly like the eXT arpeggiator
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

I just bought live on the 30th! :dog: but I've already dug into it, and with the new featuree list it definately seems a worthwhile upgrade (surely the beta period will take a while).. but still :dog: :hihi:

should be interesting when the beta lands... :)

I love the way Ableton handles the beta process. It's great to get in there and try everything out. Those Abletons are smart folk, and letting us play with the beta kicks up the "I want it value" by 100 percent :)

End of June, right? I'm assuming this is a public beta, a real testing beta is probably already underway if it's to be released that soon.
