Yes Ableton's feeling a bit threatened I would say :hihi:
I'm glad the c major scale was invented before copyright law

Look at this:

http://www.ableton.com/index.php?main=l ... w-features

http://www.ableton.com/index.php?main=l ... x-features

http://www.ableton.com/index.php?main=l ... onal-tools

http://www.ableton.com/index.php?main=l ... ts-effects

I said it loud & clear: Ableton are going to kill Cakewalk!!!

Hell, they may kill all hosts with Live 5! :-o

BTW, I'm still keeping FLS.

And it's a good thing that I never brought Live 4 (I only use the demo version for a little while. But I ended up staying at Live 3 for remix purposes).

If the reviews for Live 5 are better that 4, when I'll consider buying Live 5 myself. I wait and see this summer. 8)

S_A_P® I would actually agree fully with you there ;)

Anyway, since I had this already typed up in notepad (in case of server probs) I will post it.

In my mind these are some areas P5V2 excel over Live
  • Dimension >>> any synth Ableton added (or made you pay extra for :!: )
  • Track freeze
  • Groove Matrix @ track level. For me this is good if I am doing a remix or something so I can see what is already laid down in order to judge when to bring in other parts
  • these buttons here:
Image The reason I very much like these is if you set your loops well before hand, you can use this to trigger the whole row beneath it. To me this comes in very handy. I am not sure if this is available in Live
I'm sure there is much much more and I'm know there are things which I prefer about Live. Ultimately it is up to the individual's own preference of their workflow.

Those buttons were inspired by (but not based on or rip-off from) Live.

I use the loops that I make in FLS and dump them in Live 3. The techniques are very close. 8)

HI

Blimey, you have the hots for Live like I had for Logic PC ... before Apple stole her from me.

I do worry about ardent fans though, why would anyone give a shit who did what and where, is beyond me, its all good, Ableton do this, Cake do that, Props do this ... shit, we all win!

I can only look foward to P5V2.5, SXV4 and T3!!!

Flipper.

Live4 has a VERY complex clip triggering. you can actually program it.

(and you can group vst outputs also.)

step entry in live 5 ?

rudimentarly possible yes, i too would like a better step sequencing in Live, but, you could just use any vst stepsequencer too

What I am thinking is...Ableton knew that a lot of us are using Live 3/4...and 4 was introduced not long ago it seems! Now version 5? Come on...did what Propellerheads did with Reason...release a free downloadable version of 4.5.

One of the problem I have with Ableton is...P5V1 to P5V2 is a major overhaul...Live 3 and Live 4 are basically the same (with a few minor changes)...now Live 5...within 2 years...Hm...they just want us to throw in those upgrade fees every year. OK, a little upset can you tell from reading that Live 5 is under way. Anyway, I better go check out what Live 5 has to offer before going on here...might get burn here by saying the above statement! :p

P.S. I wonder Centrino 1.5 w/516 Ram enough to run P5V2?

Ya but ya still don't have Dimension :P and you Live guys have crap C/R while us P5V2 users have serial. This was my main motivation on NOT getting Live 4. It came out after I got burned by the folks from Bitheadz (who used C/R and then folded and didn't have a backup plan really for people who need to reauthorize)

Anyway to your comments, how do you mean program it? I have a feeling it isn't so different from what you can do with P5V2.

Further, hell why did I even come into this thread? :( People should decide for themselves because what works for one might not for another.

Myself, I hate Live but many love it. I love P5v2, while many probably hate it. At the end of the day, it shouldn't much matter what I (or anyone else) thinks in regards to someone elses choice, even though this person did in fact ask.

In a perfect world...everybody can afford to buy everything....

P5, Live, Reason, Logic, Cubase, Pro Tools, etc,. :)

Then we won't have this conversation.

look into follow actions, thats how you program it, and the post earlier with the screen shots... that feature has been in live from version 1.0, its called
'scenes' you press a scene button and all of the clips in that row are triggered, not only that but you can set different trigger quantize options for each of the clips in the scene that you lanuched, that also has been there since lives inception

ahhh cool :)
